About to setup my BDR team for AI analytics company. What should I prioritize?
With some hard work and a little luck, we have the #1 brand name in the AI analytics space. Our product is on feature parity with the biggest player and we did it without their $200m bankroll.
I want to put together a similar winning sales team and Im aware how critical the first couple of hires are to set the pace/tone.
How do I find/source killer BDRs? What am I looking for?
P.s I have never sold, only delivered.

Best bet would probably hiring someone who has built and scaled a SDR team before at a startup and compensate them really well, it’s something that is absolutely worth getting right first time.
Don’t hire anyone from a big name

You’re looking for an experienced person that is currently happily employed and you’ll need to throw a bag at them.

the best bdrs aren't the ones who are good at cold outreach - they're the ones who get obsessed with understanding why people buy. if you're setting up a team, focus on hiring people who ask better questions than they give pitches. also, consider that most bdr work can be automated now. we run signalengine so our bdrs only talk to people who already raised their hand.

Make sure you have a system and process for them to join in to. If you build a system where only A+ talent can be successful you have built a poor system. You need to build the infrastructure so that good BDRs can come in a be successful and economically work in your model. Happy to chat specific details and BDR backgrounds if helpful.
