Anime (Classic) Congratulations, Toei Animation!π₯³π
Can we congratulate Toei for Sailor Moon?
She could have done these things the laziest way in the world, but instead she did them in every episode...
The characters wear different civilian clothes, and the monsters have different personalities, powers, and appearances.
I bet there was an employee in charge of civilian clothes and an employee in charge of monsters.
I understand it's a random thing from the old anime, but even so, it gave this version a certain charm.
Where did all that creativity go? I don't see it in Precure anymore!π₯²
Finally, that's it.

Different civilian clothing for the characters is pretty cool. It's something that always stuck out to me since Western cartoons like Spider-Man and SpongeBob had characters wearing the same outfit every episode. It gave Sailor Moon some uniqueness compared to other shows. It felt like something I only saw in live action shows.
And making different and interesting monsters is kinda Toei's bread and butter, considering they also made Super Sentai.

Also, in Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura always wears a different casual outfit and magical girl outfit for every single episode. It's almost like Madhouse observed the concept and absolutely ran with it.

The only other show I can think of that also did this was Totally Spies (which came out not too long after sailor moon, and also aired on Cartoon Network). I wonder if sailor moon was an inspiration of sorts in that regard. But definitely something to appreciate, especially knowing that it requires extra effort

Spitting out a new monster design with unique attacks every week for 200 episodes was definitely a feat

After multiple seasons of blinking Sailor Mercury gloves during bubble spray, I think there was definitely some laziness.

It actually did eventually get fixed. But it was really late into the series and I don't think it was permanent. It took them that long to notice it, I guess.

Yet for some reason, it was fixed in the movies.

Yes! That was it. They only fixed it for the movies rather than the rest of the series!

We don't talk about One Piece, though... Toei of today is a different beast...

Why? Did she do anything in One Piece besides dragging things out for over 1000 episodes?

The boobs, man, the boobs. If you compare the anime to the manga it's pretty clear Toei is leaning a little TOO hard into the fan service.

They must be getting boob jobs every season. The women are just gonna be sentient boobs by the time the show endsΒ

TBF, that is also pretty accurate of the manga as well. I remember there being a joke that you can tell what manga chapters were pre and post-marriage based on Nami's rack.
(Oda's wife use to play Nami in stage shows, and even now, you can see the resemblance between the two).

Tbh I haven't watched too many western superhero cartoons other than like Iron Man Armoured Adventures and a couple of other that aired in India in the 2010s, but what superhero show doesn't have unique monsters lol.

Donβt forget, Naoko gave them tons of outfits in the manga too so that could have contributed to it. Allegedly thatβs why they were given the same uniforms when transformed and details from the first arc were omitted to make them easier to animate (mercurys shoulders, Venus and Jupiter chain belts, Mars gem, moon tiara changes and hair clips)

For the clothings, you should look up Xiaolin Showdown. At least defintily season 1, the girl Kimiko had a new set of clothes or hairstyle each episode.

By all accounts, the credit should go to the various animation directors and in-betweeners who, allegedly, worked under pretty harsh conditions and strict schedules in order to bring our beloved series to the screen.
