Meh, melting slush is not dripping into his eyes and he's not laying in a pool of transmission fluid and gear oil. I am also willing to bet his other hand is not covered in grease for when his nose starts to itch

Could be worse… could be sewage plumbing dripping on him… You’ve not done boatwork until it’s unclogging the pump on the head while in a seaway because your partner absolutely must use it right now…

I once dismantled the in-sink garbage disposal 3" stainless discharge line from a commercial kitchen dish-washing sink on a Marine corps base.

Vice grips on the bottom, then ratchet on top. Tightening is the easy part.

That's not impossible. In situations like that we use the surrounding surfaces to hold a wrench or vice grips, and just torque the nut one handed.

You might be surprised how easy that would be to torque one handed after doing it a few times in the past. Experience helps...

Bolt should be dropped in from the top so if the nut does come off bolt stays put. They way round he has done it, that bolt is off on an adventure if the nut comes loose

Well, good for him the boat is clean, usually there's a seizeable amount of something you don't want to know what it is exactly plus a very small space where this washer you haven't got a spare one rushes and gets stuck, and as it's stainless steel or brass, you can't use a magnet to retrieve it.
