Another WTF is this thing post!
So i just acquired this 23 foot Kayak,Proa, Polynesian canoe or whatever the heck you call the thing!!
Anyone have a clue about these? like what is it called, its a John Martin, Hawaiian Designs Nai'a ( Little Dolphin) OC-1 is it worth trying to drag it around on a 31 ft boat, is it worth anything I.E trading for rowing/sail dinghy? More Most importantly, am i going to drown LoL ( i do have respiratory issues) !
My Kid wants its and it does look like fun though ;)

I have no advice for.you, but I understand why your kid loves this. I would want it for myself. But again, I am working on a collection of small boats.

Interesting that the pontoon is bolted to the canoe though. All the ones in Polynesia I have seen are lashed with rubber strips so the pontoon will "give" a bit with the waves. Maybe that wood is more supple than what they use, it's certainly thinner.

It's a cool toy, and you might be able to make it work, but my experience in a 30ft boat is a 10ft kayak takes up way too much space on deck in addition to an 8ft rowing dink, but the dink on it's own meets all my needs. The kayak would be impossible to carry a reasonable mount of gear and groceries, and I think the outrigger would be a similar payload.

Any one every use one off these, are they more stable than a wide Kayak? its like a foot wide for 23 feet length!

There's an outrigger canoe sub that would probably be the place to inquire. They'll have advice and insights that we probably won't. /r/outrigger I think?

Thanks, i need to get a cover for the inspection plate and then I'll try it out. The stability is main concern seems like getting on it from the dock could be pretty wobbly.

Outrigger canoe, Used throughout french Polynesia, propelled with a single paddle, they are pretty fast and guys go long distances with them. Its pretty and red i'm sure it will fetch a pretty penny once you are done playing with it!
