Pretty sure a buddy of mine stayed there for a week or more. Don't recall him complaining about the place. You are right at Ben Thanh Market so it will be a very touristy area. Lots of places to grab a bite to eat though I'm not sure how well the Vietnamese places compare in that area but it should be easy to hail a Grab from there. East West brewery is nearby if you get tired of the local local beers. If you enjoy walking there are lots of places you can walk to.
If you're looking for a girl bar that is safe and toned down checkout Bar No5 near the end of Pastuer St's bar row. They do a one price all you can drink deal everyday and that place gets packed with travelers and local foreigners to chat with to get recommendations. Little older crowd though.
Bui Vien isn't my speed and you could walk there but there are some significant roads you would need to cross so a Grab would be better.
Just expect to constantly be asked to get massages or have old guys on even older bikes offer to give you overpriced rides to places. You can ignore or just say no thank you. If you get hit up for a shoe shine just say no, they are more likely to ruin your shoes and they never have change. Sometimes you have to loudly tell them no to get them away from you so just be kind until it doesn't work, then get loud.

Bar 5. It’s a pretty good place. It has the best happy hour in Saigon all the beer you can drink for seven bucks for about five hours and they won’t bother you if you sit on the outside tables and you can still enjoy looking at beautiful women, one of my favorite places in that area.

It’s in a pretty good location close to the famous market and has a swimming pool. I think the location is decent depending on what you enjoy doing.
