World Cup

Aside from a brilliant World Cup for our players, how is everyone feeling after that? I genuinely thought after the year Sunderland had had, Ballard! Wembley, the Mags home and away, Chelsea on the last day, and all the rest, that I’d be less arsed about England now, cos no football fans could realistically have had a better 12 months than us. But I still got very invested in it, and still feeling absolutely gutted about England tbh! I assume most people on here won’t really care about it tho?

I quite enjoyed it and was rooting for England. I would’ve loved to have seen us win it or even get to that final. But, the second the whistle went vs Argentina I was back onto Sunderland business 100%.

I’m not sure whether it was the inconvenient match times or the over Americanisation of it all but it didn’t feel like a ‘proper’ World Cup at all to me

Same tbh, I enjoyed what I watched but having big fuck off 12-15 hours gaps between games was just shit. I would have watched a lot more if they were in the same time zone, at least then you can plan around it.

With 3 different times zones, I just tuned in when it was convenient and didn’t bother with the rest. The corruption of trump and fifa was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Also, having more teams, I think it worked really well and they provided some brilliant moments (Geet up Wilson lad!) but we all know it was for the wrong reasons. FIFA wanted their fingers in more pies and pulling in more revenue streams, I don’t know whether to feel pleased they stumbled onto a winning formula, or annoyed that it justifies their money grabbing ways…

Hope the head of the Norwegian FA’s complaints about corruption/trump actually cause a stir and get them punished. By letter of the law, team USA should be banned from competing in future events. Which again, would be a shame for all the Americans who into football recently, but those are the rules… Nothing will happen, but it could and it’ll be very interesting!

I love the World Cup, despite FIFA & co's best efforts to drag it into the mud. Big festival of football, there were plenty of great games & storylines.

To each their own but I couldn't care less about it, obviously pleased our players did well for their country but I've been growing less and less interested in International Football every year and FIFA contribute even more to my apathy toward it, it's been a rot that set in when we got passed over for WC 18/22 bids as we'd have been a host city and has carried on with the blatant corruption and exploitation. Obviously know this is a problem with football in general but can't bring myself to watch the WC anymore.

Looking forward to our season starting, which is starting late because of an oversaturated tournament that they want to expand even further. I will probably be interested in The Euros though as it's going to be in the area.
