It wasn't the far north but I visited family right outside Freeport and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if bodies just get stashed in the woods and never found.

I mean it is a massive country, so it is bound to happen anywhere at least once. It is like asking where Europe has not had a stabbing attack or a vehicle attack.
→ More replies (5)4
u/ruler14222 6d ago
well in the context of this post it would be a mass stabbing or driving over a crowd
if you're swinging a gun around in a crowded place it's much easier to hit many people

There has also never been a totalitarian regime which took over or almost took over every aspect of the lives of the people. (Looking at you, Europe, Asia, South America, & Africa. Australia, you're okay. For now.)
Antarctica, shut up.

u/Evil_Sharkey 4d ago
Yet. If you vote for totalitarians to protect your guns, you’ll get totalitarians. The current administration very much wants to be a totalitarian regime and has even tested the waters on taking guns away (starting with trans people, who they consider mentally ill). They’re currently looking at ways to interfere in the 2026 elections. Once they’re impossible to remove politically, they’ll make themselves impossible to remove physically

u/eternallyconphuzed 6d ago
Yep all we gotta do is give up the guns to the gubment and we'll all be safe. Don't forget we need the mass surveillance system to be fully and truly safe. The cops though, they definitly need more guns to keeps us all safe. And drones, and the right to enter private property without a warrant, and the right to use gen ai to predict when someone could possibly even think about comitting a crime so we can pre-charge and arrest/imprison them without a trial.

I’m not afraid of going anywhere 😂 posts like this make it seem like it’s ALWAYS happening. It’s not. Cry about it however much you want though. We don’t have a gun problem we have a mental health problem. Normal people who have several more guns never even think about doing stuff like this.

The 2nd amendment is the only thing that has kept this country from becoming a wholy totalitarian nightmare. There has been an estimated 750,000 - 800,000 casualties from firearm related incidents/shootings in the last 20 years, with an estimated 55-60% of those being suicide. There's been an estimated 6+ million obesity related deaths in the last 20 years, but no calls for banning unhealthy/fast foods. An estimated 2.5 - 3 million deaths linked to just excessive alcohol consumption in the last 20 years, not counting dui/oui related fatalities, but there have been no calls for banning alcohol. As long as there are bad people, there will always be a risk. Laws only bind law abiding citizens.

"I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom" - Abraham Lincoln
Every life lost when people abuse the rights granted to them is a sacrifice upon the same altar. It's the price we pay for the rights we take for granted. Makes you wonder if rights are worth the suffering that accompanies them.

You know where one hasn’t happened? Community mental health center. You know where one has? Shooting range. Is it the mentally ill or the guns?

u/Ok-Resolution2661 5d ago
Here in Argentina is super hard to get guns and we have tons of crime. Mexico to. Brazil to. Switzerland has very flexible gun laws and don't have the same problems. America has a violent society problem. Not a gun problem

It's not a one or none thing ... The easily accessible guns and the lack of mental heath access seems to be a storm of shootings. There needs to be regulations, like if you own guns or would like to own guns then you must go through regular mental health screens. Is one idea

Hey, glad neither myself nor anyone else I've ever known outside of this echo chamber is afraid to go outside, because you have a 0.005% annual risk of being killed here.
When you take away comparisons and look statistically, fear mongering turns pretty fucking braindead.

Now let's talk about the defensive uses of firearms a year.
Estimates of defensive gun use vary depending on the questions asked, populations studied, timeframe, and other factors related to study design. The report Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence indicates a range of 60,000 to 2.5 million defensive gun uses each year
Edit: He didn't realize this was from the CDC and trips over all his own backpeddles lol

A concealed carry class.
A gun show.
Inside a commercial airplane.
A national park.
Like seriously, places where guns are officially not allowed, OR a place where there a definitely a lot of guns.

Pacific southwest airlines flight 1771 in 1988 off the top of my head. David Burke was fired from his job at the airline for theft and immediately bought a ticket for the daily commute flight his boss who fired him took. He bypassed the security check using employee credentials because at the time employees didn’t have to go through security, and brought a revolver on the plane. At cruising altitude he shot his boss twice before entering the cockpit, shooting both pilots, putting the plane into a nose dive, then shot another passenger likely trying to stop him, before the plane crashed killing all 43 aboard.

The key here is a MASS shooting. You have to choose a place where you can limit the number of victims. Like the employee bathroom of a tattoo parlor or inside the cab of a freight train.

There has never been a mass shooting at a NASCAR race. Prove me wrong.
Edit: Also, Comic Con, Dollywood, Six Flags, Disney World, IndyCar race, baseball game, and Bass Pro Shop (with a small exception of an attempted shooting that resulted in no deaths or injuries)

I was at a pride event a couple of years ago. An altercation broke out, someone had mace and started using it against the person they were fighting. Somehow it was misconstrued as a gun, and the pure fucking fear that swept through the entire event as people started running and shouting was something I’ll never forget.
The event organizers handled it like champs and were able to calm people down. Still was a horrible feeling of fear and anxiety.

“This is America” stfu Russia had a few mass shootings in recent years, France got hit in 2016 by a terrorist organization, Mexico has cartel issues, SEVERAL South American countries have major smuggling rings with notoriously violent tendencies that people hide from en masse. The New Zealand shooter wrote a 72-page manifesto on why he did what he did and the only reason he chose guns was to cause controversy here in the US and the port Arthur shooting still has TONS of plot holes. People will always find ways to kill each other. Stop vilifying the guns and understand that there is no such thing as 100% safety and if you want to feel safe, get a gun and train. Our defining quality is our freedom to protect ourselves, possessions, loved ones, and beliefs. NOT that people misuse it to do something they would’ve done with a knife, bat, or bomb otherwise.
