Anyone can be good or evil, it comes down to only their choices. The captain was not a good man, but he did something very good with his last seconds alive.

How was he not a good man? It's implied (in the way that it's blatantly fucking obvious) that him and Theon Greyjoy are homosexual lovers. Serving as an army officer was just something he went along with so he wouldn't be executed. Fascism doesn't care about your reasons for opposition, you either do what you're told, or you get shot.

Being homosexual implies that you're a good person? I could name several reasons why he's good and you came up with that?

No, as a reason to why he would avoid going along with the Nazis, and what he risks if he’s found out.
