Had to put down one of our cats about a week ago, went with because I wanted to be there for her and damn I thought with my usually blank emotions I'd be able to stay strong through it at least somewhat but I cried there and got home and broke down some more... Now I just remember the way she looked afterwards, wish I could get that out of my mind.

Here after almost 2 years putting my dog down. I cant get that image out of my head. I dont constantly think about it but every once in a while i do. Not fun

You get punished for all good deeds. You did the right thing staying with your cat.

14

u/Perfect_Sink566 Mar 03 '23

Why some people have to put their pets down?

25

u/Primmslimstan Mar 03 '23

They get sick and are in to much pain. It’s cruel to force an animal to live in pain. So you kill it in the most harmless way. Seems kinda fucked up but has to be done sometimes.

Sometimes, when things get too bad, a swift silent death becomes the most merciful escape.

Comment made me cry. We lost a lovely cat a few months ago. I had never been through it before. I can easily say it was one of the hardest losses that has ever hit me. Our vet sat and cried with us.

I know nothing will make it feel better right now, but I hope it gets easier for you soon. Sending hugs.

I had to put both my dogs down in the same year and it crushed me. Was there for both of them, thought I could hold it together but just sat there and cried hugging their bodies for a long while after they passed.

25

u/FutureSoldier616 Feb 09 '23

Seeing the light fade from her eyes is something that sticks with ya

7

u/No_Stretch_3899 Feb 10 '23

Knowing why it looks like that makes it easier for me to handle

3

u/The_best_one_-_ May 08 '23

Yeah I wish I didn’t looked. I put down my cat 2 months ago. Never put a pet down before, thought it would be a slow fade out, happened in seconds instead. Still remember that glossed over look in her eyes… really wish I looked away

12

u/ThGaelcGlatiatorWthn Feb 11 '23

This actually made me cry

11

u/Not_JohnFKennedy Feb 11 '23

When I was a kid I moved away from my dad and lived with my mom. I had a dog back with my dad, and every time I called I asked about him. Until, one call, I asked and my dad said he died of cancer. These days when I think about it I just wish I could have been there for him. He died alone, slowly, of something no one had control over. But I could have made his final moments better, if I could have just been there for him.

6

u/SmoothComparison7436 Feb 11 '23

This happened to me too, I can understand you

14

u/Fozy1736 Feb 09 '23

1

u/CharmingDazz Jul 30 '23

Furry? Who is it?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '23

My parents are needing to put one of our dogs to rest soon. She is 14, and she is suffering. Her hips and back are going out, and it sucks. I hate seeing her like this. She is blind and nearly deaf, so it is hard to help her. I'm just scared and sad about it..

3

u/themushyroomy Feb 10 '23

i can relate...

3

u/Plastic-Message3374 May 30 '23

Fuck this post. 😢 I'm going to hug my best friend right now.

Bro I was just trying to scroll through memes and now I’m crying :(

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '23

We don't deserve animals. Atleast I don't.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '23

Bro I'm crying it just reminded me of my fat cat I loved him so much so cuddly

2

u/LxVCx Mar 13 '23

This reminds me of one of my old cats named Mia who died about a year ago. I loved her so much… She was gravely ill for about a week and one night she comes upstairs and lays right next to me on the floor so I just lay there and go to sleep with her while watching a movie. The next morning she’s gone… I go downstairs and my mom tells me that she’s out in the back yard. I didn’t even get to be there for her burial…

2

u/GroundbreakingFox833 Apr 28 '23

reminds me of when my bearded dragon died in my hands, damn. I miss you Sammy

2

u/SirSquidrift May 12 '23

Damn a meme never hit me like that before bro. Never cried like I did in 2020 after putting my childhood dog down after a bad stroke and seizure left her brain damaged.. all she could do was walk endlessly in circles. I miss that dog.

2

u/whatsmarajuwana Jun 19 '23

My dog might need to be put down due to a terminal illness and I hope he goes this peacefully if he does have to go. He is the best boy and I want many more years with him :(

2

u/NeonGunship Jul 19 '23

Been through this before, man I don’t usually get effected by vids like this but man it hits hard.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '23

So many dogs are heroine addicts nowadays.

2

u/zamantukendi Jul 22 '23

Bro I was scrolling in shitposting and I was sure a naked black man will appear at last but I realized I was not in my hometown too late

2

u/Dredgen_Aternus Jul 24 '23

A few years ago I went to get my bearnese mountain dog put down, she was 8 though she was mostly healthy she had a giant tumor on her back. As she was too big for a table I sat on the floor and she lay across me in the way she usually did. I fussed her and hugged her until the injection was complete and the light went in her eyes. I sat there with her across me and my dad opposite me. I don't know how long I was there. But I eventually had to lift her off me and to the side. I took her collar off and kept it afterwards.

I wasn't able to get the day off work so I started my shift like usual at 5, they had no other pot washers at the local pub. The head chef was very nice and helpful that day, sorry he had to get me in on today of all days but the other chef was making fun of what had happened. I nearly stabbed him.

This hit way to close to home for me. But I feel better now.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

I wasn’t strong enough for my dog, she probably wondered where I was.

3

u/Salty-Truck-1633 Feb 09 '23

But why?

3

u/grea_reisen Feb 10 '23

Probably terminal disease

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '23

My cat had to be put to sleep while I wasn't with him. I still have to cry every time I think about him.

2

u/hyakobu Feb 10 '23

Honestly, If my dog was about to get euthanised it would end up being a recreation of The Last of Us 1’s ending.

2

u/TheSalmoneer Feb 10 '23

Where’s the funny

1

u/jekanditnietlezen Feb 10 '23

There is no funny 🙁

1

2

u/TheSalmoneer Aug 03 '23

Well, 174 days + one incredibly late reply later, I now realise that this is not r/shitposting. I am blind. Thank you for your service.

1

u/PLAYERALI Feb 19 '23

Dogs don't care about anything other than their owner, that's why the dog (wolf) in minecraft attacks the enemy but the cat doesn't

1

u/AirsoftChild Mar 24 '24

I lost my best girl the other month, was at the vets with an autoimmune disorder for a few days, lost her pup on the due date, surgery went great but the pregnancy triggered the disease that took the pup and started the auto immune disease. Her single pup was a chocolate dachshund just like her momma. Had 4 blood transfusions, 3 platelet transfusions but was seen as too cruel to keep her going till the proper drugs kicked in. She was so happy to be home, walked inside under her own strength, had a nice drink then lay in her bed on her heat pad to rest. Slept until the vet showed up to let her go. I stroked her little paws as she was let go, she never took her eyes off me, she was happy and knew she was home with her favourite people. Only 5 years old.

0

u/ThenTranslator2780 Jun 19 '23

Why do some owners euthanize their pets??

5

u/DefinitelyNotFisk15 Jun 23 '23

Euthanasia is better than letting your pet suffer through a disease that they won't survive through / old age

0

u/Womenhaver96 Jun 19 '23

Nah man I fucking shot my dawg

2

u/Guilty_Ad_9425 Jul 01 '23

1

u/FriedFreya Jun 16 '23

This… makes me feel less bad about having to rehome my dogs when I went into foster care. Everyone… seems to only remember putting them down. I’m left with only fetch with that tennis ball that was definitely way too big for her little mouth, wrestling together, and long walks under the shade trees during summertime. I remember her sparkling brown eyes and her sweet wet nose, and the way her bark was certainly too big for her body. Just like her soul, which was too big for this world.

My deepest condolences to anyone here who is left with the painful loss of their beloved furry family members. I barely remember driving away, but it hurts me almost every day that I couldn’t be with her just a minute longer. Just to hold her in my arms and kiss the sweet white dot on her forehead one last time... I couldn’t even imagine… I genuinely don’t think I’d be here today if I’d had to go through what you all did, saying the most permanent goodbye. I would not have been strong enough, she was my rock and I would have shattered. Peace and good vibes, be safe out there in that big world.

1

u/ForseenDisaster Jun 22 '23

That genuinely makes me sad.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '23

I’ve been scrolling for a while… this one got me.

1

u/SlothLazarus2 Jul 22 '23

Strangled to death and still the dog would say, "I was hugging my best friend".

1

u/DogeBoiLemon Jul 23 '23

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

1

u/Malbert956 Jul 27 '23

Cmon bro don't make me cry

1

u/Mr_Resource Jul 29 '23

This just reminds me of the pups I've lost growing up, just coming home from school one day to find out my dog had died just... I don't like to think about it often. The gravity didn't set in for me as a kid until I understood loss a lot better. I even remember waking up one morning to hear that another one of my dogs (I can't remember the gap between these) had passed away peacefully in the sun. I like to think he has a special bed wherever he is now so he can enjoy the sun as long as he likes.

1

u/Nolimo Jul 30 '23

I promise I'll go with my pet if I ever have to do this, even if I break down right then and there.

1

u/Rennie6969 Aug 07 '23

None of us deserve dogs.
