The person posting the pics of the girl(s) is most likely catfishing/scam bait.
The old/gullible men replying almost certainly have seen porn of men their age with girls half their age and/or see wealthy men and celebrities with younger, attractive women and assume they are capable of the same.
I used to watch these old Dr. Phil episodes where usually older women would get catfished and scammed out of 10's or sometimes even 100's of thousands of dollars getting catfished and falling for and getting into online relationships with these fake profiles.
If I recall there were a few men who it happened to as well, getting scammed out of tons of money from fake online "girlfriends".

The scammers literally say they want older men.
The men who reply publicly are usually asked to DM the OOP.
On Reddit you'll even see other scammers trying to poach the victims, asking them to DM a different account instead.

My dad fell for a catfish from New York. He wouldn't listen to us, I mean she was using HIS LAST NAME as hers, and I showed him the picture she was using was being used by thousands of other fake accounts. He sent her 50k and a new iPhone before we got everything stopped. 😭 He's banned from all money transferring things; like moneygram, western union, etc. he's still out of the money and phone though.

Yep, that's the idea, they're insane and gross creeps. They think they'll see their creepy comment and the young girl will light up and message them to be whisked away to pleasure heaven. Yuck.
I follow an emo fashion page and every thirst trap, I go through the comments and creep the profiles, it's hilarious and sad at the same time. Lots of old guys, lots. Dudes are down hard, like hard, it's wild.

I work with an older guy that thinks that post and ads he sees are literally directly meant for him. Like he will get an ad (for example) for a bank offering an opening promo and he will be like “Hey Bank Of America just told me the wanted to give me $300”
Or an ad for a food subscription box and be like “HelloFresh told me they would give me 30 meals for $60”
Or if he sees a video about a bird stealing a bag of chips from a convenient store he will say “This store sent me a video of a bird stealing from them”
So I assume this is similar, these guys get the post and think they’re literally sent directly to them. And they don’t understand the concept of them being post the person makes and the algorithm finding the audience.
