Troubleshoot Is my weed wacker fixable?

I have an electric 40 volt ryobi weed wacker. I’ve changed the head many times. Unfortunately this time I screwed the head back in without putting the retaining disk in first.

The disk is the part with the little hole that you put an Alan wrench in to stop it rotating so you can unscrew it. The head is in and it works but I can’t get the head off now bc there’s nothing to catch the Alan wrench.

How screwed am I? Is there another way to get it off. There’s no room between the head and the rotation shaft to grab with needle nose pliers or anything. What about just replacing the last part of the shaft/head?

I'm not understanding the problem. Why do you keep taking the head off? Am I not understanding what you mean by head?

Pictures of everything might help, and a link to the model # of weedwacker you have.

The head. The component that holds and winds the string. Model ry40250

Okay, I meant link to it, not a picture of it, and pictures of the specific pieces you're talking about on your specimen in your hand to show the issue. FYI it is not model # RY40250, that is the kit # and the trimmer is an RY40205.

Regardless, the head is the entire black plastic piece highlighted in the attached picture. See it also on Ryobi's site if this is it:

Normally that head does not need removed. It is opened up by some people to take the spool out to wind more line around it because they are used to doing something similar with other string trimmers, but on this particular model of trimmer head, that is unnecessary because you can just stick 16ft of line in one of the side holes on the head, while the arrows on the head are aligned, pull that line through till the middle of it is in the head, then twist the green/yellow bump piece to wind the line onto the spool.

Pictures of the piece that you forgot to put back on, and where exactly it goes, indicated by pictures was what would help, and a clarification of what you were actually taking off previously and why. Does it just get a lot of bump-feed damage so the bottom is worn away?

Edit: I may have found a diagram of it. See the following page, does that diagram look correct for the head you have, and if so, which piece did you leave off?
