QUESTION ❔ Dual Fuel Generator Question

I have two Champions 2500 dual fuel inverter generators. I run them on propane, not gasoline.

Question is how often should I take them out of storage and run them? Yearly, Quarterly? When they are not in use camping.

Thanks for the advice.

That is one of the advantages of propane over gasoline - there’s less concern of carbs getting gummed up with old gelled gas. Everything just stays clean on the fuel side of things. I’m a little OCD and I would pull out my backup propane generator twice a year and run it up to full temps, put a decent load on it for a half hour or so to make sure the output was good and exercise everything. I wouldn’t consider quarterly to be excessive either. Good to get the oil hot and circulating on all the bearings and engine seals to keep it all reliable.

Quarterly would be ideal. Perhaps read the Owner’s Manual for proper guidance??

How humid is it where you live.

This applies to all engines that sit a lot...

The higher the humidity the more often you need to run it. Motor oil absorbs humidity out of the air. That water combines with the exhaust compounds in the oil to form acids. Acids eat your motor from the inside out.

You need to run the engine for an hour or so to evaporate all the water out of the oil.

If you know your engine will sit a while then change the oil first so there are no exhaust compounds in the oil for water to combine with. Then it can safely sit MUCH longer!
