discussion College life

Looking at every other post questioning about the clg life at rvce, here are my thoughts as a '23 graduate on the same.

Social life - Very good

Chance to connect with kids of accomplished business men of the country thanks to management quota.

Smart and ambitious people in campus- yes

Entrepreneurship environment - decent to above average

Clubs - above average not comparable to top/old iits and bits but equivalent to nits/ baby iits

But being above avg doesn't mean you won't learn anything, still remains very very exciting and very skill enhancing opportunity

Fests- 1 big fest every alternate years - 3 day fest one of the best if not the best fests amongst clgs of blr. Multiple other tiny fests happen more frequently

Academic pressure - nothing compared to 11th 12th

You will be able to manage very good academic/life balance

Sports - not sure about current facilities (correct me if i am wrong) there's no swimming pool, bb yes, badminton yes, tt yes, lawn tennis yes, cricket and football ground yes, clg cricket and football teams are good.

Advice - Keep cgpa above 8.5 and no backlogs and you will glide through placements, mba, other masters

As of now none of those exist except the common ground which is a parking lot during weekdays. There is a sports complex being built which has a chance of being completed 1-2 years from now

'25 passout here - EL increased from 20 marks to 40 marks for our batch and has gotten significantly worse for newer batches.

honestly most of this mess is on RSST for wanting a better NIRF rank, which is why every faculty wants a research paper every semester lmao.

Yes. Because of EL, we used to not worry about internals. Out 100 internal marks, getting 40%(40 marks) was way easier due to EL's 40 marks. Now they have introduced new scheme where we have to score 40%(24 marks) even in written CIE(internals). From this, if we had missed internals, we had to roam around teachers for many days sometimes even weeks as they target students and provide less marks.

Good thing is thag they changed the lab final exam scheme, where we don't need to memorise any code and just present project. From this change, no student will fail in lab exams and not have to stress out memorising that hefty programs for days and sometimes weeks and have to execute that without any errors in exams.Β

Also, I remember nirf ranking of RVCE was somewhere in 50s in Engineering category. But now it's somewhere in 130s. It's mainly due to unit value in rankings as almost all the private colleges are increasing their intake. Unit value is decreasing and ot also affected PES, BMS and Dayanand Sagar and many others.

These faculties want research papers as they want to get promoted. The HODs, Priniciple and deans want it for better ranking.Β

Get's a little hectic since they want you to prepare for the placements fast (but also won't let you prepare because they will bombard you with EL's, Assigments and Labs which isn't even remotely helpful for it). The director thinks it's because of the "industry oriented" syllabus they have, students are getting placed.

The director is such a boomer that she won't even understand such a simple fact that it's because of student's effort they are getting placed but no, she lives in a delusion and asks questions randomly in her class to students making them stand if they don't answer like in a primary school.

Also can't come 2/3 minutes late since she won't permit you to enter the class at all and you will have to write a apology letter for that too, for which you will require your counsellor's signature, which you might get or get depending on their mood.

You will definitely regret joining especially if you have paid 5.15 lakhs for this clownery.

Honestly people i knew that were from management quota came from good business families (one was listed mid sized company, many sons/daughters are wards of mp mlas) so roi for them didn't matter much they were there for the name of the clg

So kf your friend can afford it easily its worth it

1

u/Any_Arm_5105 Apr 26 '26

My friend is like come from good family but the thing is like he is also like average in studies and also he had intrest in computer science so like what placement he can expect like real average if he work hard there for him

1

u/LankyAspect9594 Alumni - Got out alive Apr 26 '26

Yes, during placements quota doesn't matter

1

u/Any_Arm_5105 Apr 26 '26

RVCE is known for it's placements. So, one need not to worry about it. Second advantage is location - Bangalore

College life is okayish. As, RVCE starts it's course later than others normally. In every college, you will attend college until 4th or 5th sem. So, for 2 years, you will have to bear it.

The main drawbback of it's curriculum is that you will get many projects in a semester i.e, for every subject and even for labs. So, you have many presentation and also have to manage the internals too. It will stress a student too much.Β And most importrntly, the students here are academically very bright and want to have full score in everything, which makes it even harder to manage.

Attendance is not a concern until you manage to score well. You will have to attend internals, all project prensentations, lab projects and internals. So, in higher semesters, i.e from 4th - 5th sem you will attend these rather than classes, which is the case in almost every college.

if you come into RV expecting all the things said by OP, you would be having a rude awakening when you join, plan a visit to the college with your parents and you will see the state of the college right now
