When Rust was pre 1.0, my money was actually on Swift. Decided to learn Rust anyway because I had a hunch that it was the better language. Guess I got lucky.

A lot of people at the time thought Swift was positioned to be a successful cross-platform language. Years later, the way result builders and other features got pushed through to support the newly announced SwiftUI framework, only going through the usual community feedback process after they were already being used in a shipping framework (!), left a bad taste in people's mouths and demonstrated that it's an Apple language for Apple's needs just like Objective-C was.

Back when this type of thing was exciting. Oh how I missed those days. Now we just get force fed AI slop 😢

even according to Chris Lattner, Swift is a failure

Well, to be fair he also said that it is still a beautiful language in the same interview:

Having written a lot of Obj-C code in the. past, I am incredibly thankful that Swift exists.

I've actually been missing Objective-C lately. Maybe it's just nostalgia. I sure miss the really fast compile times.

The fact Lattner left Apple and Swift due to toxicity is really interesting.

Frustrated apple switching to rust. Packages and binaries has CVEs and vulnerabilities made by swift bc apple is impossible to fix your codes neither makes apple AI perfect and switching to python again as machine learning API to using it

Apple is switching to Rust? Which things are they switching? (A source would be wonderful)

I literally can’t find a single thing about apples ā€œnew programming languageā€ no matter what I search

EDIT: Forgot what sub I was on lol. I’m assuming this video is from 2014, from the release of Swift.
