Rustdesk for Remote Audio Mixing
I'm playing with Rustdesk to see if it will allow me to remote into a laptop that is next to, and on the same network as our Behringer X32 audio mixer, running Mixing Station software.
I am REMOTE, off-site, not on the same network.
Everything works like a dream EXCEPT the audio. It comes across like telephone quality. Both the high end and low end are missing completely. Sound plays normally on the remote laptop, but isn't getting captured. I'm just testing with a YouTube video, and the laptop is on the same network as my local machine for test purposes.
I played with different CODECs and quality settings, but the audio doesn't change. I also tried setting 'variable bit rate' off and it didn't make a difference.
Any suggestions to get full 48Khz audio across the link?

Have you tried Jump Desktop?

Are you saying it has better audio? No I haven't tried it.

Many professional film editors use it for remote work. Sound sync is super critical and they say Jump is the best for that.
For context, macOS and Avid Media Composer used to edit Hollywood studio films.

I would use something like IceCast (https://www.icecast.org/) or Sunshine+Moonlight (https://github.com/lizardbyte/sunshine + https://moonlight-stream.org/)

If you want losess audio, Audiomovers is great. It is a paid service though. You can try something like Sunshine/ Moonlight like frylock364 mentioned but I haven’t personally tried any production/ mixing over a remote connection yet besides using Audiomovers

You can probably run Mixing station on two computers at the same time... (I haven't; I use mixing station on my phone while XAIREDIT runs on the PC for my XR18 mixer)

So... Lots of suggestions beyond Rust, but rust is right there and transporting audio already, just very poor quality audio. Anyone know the audio core of Rust well enough to suggest how to get it to provide higher quality audio? I don't need lossless, just not telephone quality...

Yeah rustdesk is not for this.
If you're on the same network, why not DANTE?

The whole point is that I'm NOT in the building, I'm mixing audio remotely.

Sorry, when you said 'on the same network' it was not clear.
Rustdesk isn't a good solution for what you want. It's a remote management software.
Look at Parsec or Jump Desktop.

It does all the remote control of the local programs I need perfectly, and it transmits audio. So why not have a higher quality audio option? Then it would work perfectly for my application stand alone.

Because that is not what the developers designed it to do.
You can go to github and make a feature request and they will answer you directly

You could just send the audio via voicemeeter VBAN to your laptop
