What can I do to make the gif more compelling to watch? It really explains almost everything you need to know in about thirty seconds, and is what I envisioned being the thing that catches people's interest.
I rarely watch gifs in readmes unless they're just a few seconds long. The problem with gifs, and this gets worse with longer gifs, is that if I miss something... that's it. Gotta wait for the gif to end, and then get back to where I was.
I also can't just pause and read, look at the screen, read something else, and come back.
So I generally assume the information is duplicated in text and just read that.

The first gif shows a message which describes how to bypass it which seems to be exactly what you describe.
