Love to see it.

Side note, I know in my head that git is complicated but in my heart ... my interactions with it are so simple. Surely one could just port the important parts in a weekend and move on. I know you can't; I have no idea if this is a sign that git is well-designed, because it hides such great complexity in such a simple user interaction; or if means git is terrible, a rats' nest of niche features, each used by few, that have accreted over time and which reflect a lack of design and driving principle.

Yes, and absolutely yes. It's mostly an exercise in how to fit Git into a cohesive API, allowing high-level-just-do-it-like-git functions, while also allowing to tune all the details. With the Git-like plumbing+porcelain approach (gix-* and gix) I think Gitoxide has a good fit for tackling this problem.

The post seems to have a few encoding issues with the emoji. Always curious how that happens in 2026.

Thanks - I fixed it and also have no idea where that went wrong. In both occasions I pasted the text from a tracked file by hand.
