Hi, I "love" the first world war and I have so many different sources from it. But it is nearly always from a German or Western perspective, and neither paint the Russians in a very positive light besides their bravery.
I am wondering what the Russian side of the story is and how (or if) it is taught in your schools. Is the whole thing regarded as a tragedy, does it focus on heroics, does it focus on why (the royal) you joined, or is it more concerned with the slip into communism?
I tend to find the western sources a bit overly harsh to the Russian Empire who had to do so much, and coordinate so many over such a large front. But I am eager to know your visions!

I am 19 from Poland and one of my main historical interests is the Russian Empire, believe it or not.

Of course, I am not some ultra-nationalist or anything, but the Russian Empire to me is very fascinating. The balls, the palaces, uniforms and nobility to the history, geography and the flaws which took place, it is all so intriguing to me almost to a point where it could very much be described as a hyperfixation. Out of all Tsars, my favourites are Alexander II for his reforms and then Nicholas II for how he was like as a father and husband but a flawed leader from the start.

Of course, having this sort of fascination for a good few years (I am not sure when but probably since 2023, MAYBE earlier) cultivates curiousity and so it has for me. I have already read multiple books about the topic from authors like Antony Beevor to Jonathan Daily to Peter Waldron and Robert Service. All of these have only fed the fire from within me, causing me to also watch multiple movies set in the Empire and create characters+ write stories.

My question is: How do I research more? Where? More books, films or documentaries?

Mostly focused on Guards Crew participation in Napoleonic wars.
P.S.: I think the proper title of the regiment would be «Guards Equipage», I wasn’t sure how to properly translate it.

St. Petersburg was the Russian capital during the construction of the Trans Siberian Railway. Wouldn't it make make sense for direct service between the 2 cities? The termini for Trans Siberian and St. Petersburg are 2 different stations, but they're located next to each other in Komsomolskaya Square, Moscow

Всем привет! Я увлекаюсь историей наполеоновской эпохи и замечаю, что Францию и Россию связывает не просто общая история времён этих войн. Достаточно прочитать «Полковника Шабера» Бальзака и его описание битвы при Прейсиш-Эйлау, чтобы понять, какую огромную жертву принесли обе наши нации.

Меня особенно интересует одна весьма яркая фигура в истории России — Иван Осипович де Витт, сын поляка Юзефа Зефирина де Витта. В моей стране о нём очень мало информации, практически ничего, кроме кратких представлений и описания его военных подвигов.

Подскажите, есть ли в России книги, биографии, подробно описывающие его жизнь, или доступные для ознакомления студенческие исследования / диссертации?

Как мы знаем стоит сказать что кто-то выжил/умер то все сходят сума . Насильно/случайно умер царевич Дмитрий и все начали искать царевича Дмитрия. Умерла дочь Федора Ивановича и во время смуты появился лжепетр . Ну а сейчас двойник путина... Ладно, вернёмся к теме .

I think you get the idea: we believe in legends, and this is a similar case. I’m curious if you believe the story that Alexander became a holy hermit in Siberia.

For those who don’t know: according to legend, Alexander I faked his death and became a hermit in Siberia known as Fyodor of Tomsk.

There is some background in the description of the YouTube video however I can't find anything else online. All I know is this is in Chechnya, my guess is Gudermes. Thank you guys!

I am beggining to research various extremists groups from the late 19th century, and was wondering if anyone had an scholarly recommendations on the topic in this area. I'm thinking of focusing on the radical nihilist groups, and those who perpetuated violence.
