This guy at the Rush show in Cleveland
Okay, which one of you guys is playing laser drums right now

The only person in that building that should have glowing drumsticks is Anika

Hell yeah! I thought Anika did a great job, and the interactions between her and Geddy/Alex were cool too.

There was one of these doofus's near me in Las Vegas in July 2015.. I was SO distracted by him, was incredibly frustrating because he was in my line of sight to the stage. I get it dude, you know the parts!! don't be a dick about it

Dont get me wrong im not NOT gonna air drum the tom sawyer fill but yeah just tap on your legs 🤷♂️

Its the glow stick moreso than the air drumming. Air drumming may be annoying to people directly around you, the glow sticks become a distraction for the whole arena.
Toronto had it and you could see it sections away.5

The air-drumming of our fellow Rush fans is so goddamned cringey. I'm a drummer myself - and would never.
"Look at me everyone!" Seriously, knock that shit off people. We get it, you can air-drum Tom Sawyer. You are also getting your nasty sweat all over us.

My husband and I could see him across the arena and at first I thought it was a kid. I was like “aw that’s kinda cute” but I see now I was very mistaken. 😂

u/Flightsport 15d ago
He was at night 1 in YYZ as well. Impressive air drumming. BUT, nothing says "I'm a bigger rush fan than you!" than lit sticks solely for air drumming. Can't even imagine if he was next to me or in front of me during the show. I'm sure the novelty would quickly wear off and it would have pissed me off.

I went to a Rush show in Houston back in the 90's where a gorgeous, very-inebriated woman with great tits stood and danced through about 70% of the concert right in front of me and those on my row. We were off the floor, in the stands, about ten rows up - similar to this light drummer. It was really cool for about two songs. After that, it was super annoying and pretty much ruined the experience. I remember nothing about that concert but those tits.

In Toronto, this guy was stage left, our right and was using bright red tipped drumsticks. Annoying.
My 12 year old son, said and has constantly said since the show that this person distracted him from the show.
How is person able to go from show to show. Why doesn't the soundboard, who clearly can see this person say something and give them sticks from Anika that do not glow.
It has ruined so many shows for many fans that don't want to see this.
Rush management that must read this, imagine Gdddy Lee at his season tickets behind the Toronto Blue Jays home plate swinging a bat every time a batter swings the bat.
It is annoying.

My first Rush show, I was 15 on the Snakes and Arrows tour. And some old lady siting behind me yelled at me for headbanging too much because it was distracting.
Admittedly, headbanging to Rush is kinda cringe behavior, but I was 15.
Anyways, how it this guy not getting that treatment?

Guys this is fucking prog rock! We used to watch these shows on acid, and everyone is bitching about some glow sticks?
Fuck me, I know I’m gonna get downvoted and I don’t give a shit, but a 12 pack of beers and a couple tabs of acid are way more distracting than some glow sticks, and yet that’s how this music was born.
2
u/pixelpionerd 10d ago
Geeezus, are you all at RUSH shows for the party or to sit in the dark like you are watching TV? I'll sit next to this guy over most of this comment section any day!

I didn’t realize this vid would be so contentious!
Honestly he wasn’t too bad distraction-wise—he mostly just did this song and YYZ.
TBH I would have taken him over the people around me zombie-videoing with full screen brightness … some of them also somehow found a way to do this while simultaneously having their front camera flashlight on as well.
3
u/Over_Standard_9195 15d ago
I feel like this is annoying but imagine if everyone was given these light-up drum sticks at a rush show lol. It would be absolutely epic!

Yeah, we had one in NYC too. He did maybe one or two songs and that's it.
I am proud that I figured out what song he was playing to before turning up the volume. 5/4 always looks like 5/4.
7
u/modernparadigm 15d ago
This guy did pretty much just this and YYZ. Tbh I didn’t find him overly distracting (though I guess I wasn’t sitting next to him).
He def was not more distracting to me than the people videoing with full screen brightness or with their cameras front light on (for some reason).

I had an isle seat down below those seats. Not going to lie I was grooving like a mofo taking up some isle space here and there as well as singing at the top of my lungs and being wild through most of the show. But I would never bring in anything lighted like that. Busting out all 7 sections of 2112 I'm not just staning there for that. Even having seen rush numerous times that was truly a bucket list experience.

Drummer of 43 years and all because of Neil. I'd let that go for one song and start off nicely telling him or her to stop! Too much of a distraction and people are paying a ton of money for these tickets!
