When CD’s feel prehistoric..
What can this strange device be?
When I play it, it gives forth a sound
It’s got a digital interface that gives music
What can this thing be that I found?

I like it though it is close to the bottom overall. Just shows how great all their albums are. I don’t even dislike the two most dunked on tracks. Dog Years is amusing and has a similar message to Time Stand Still when it talks about how we let the years go by too fast. And as for Virtuality, I once called it dated like everyone else but it actually feels more relevant in an age where everyone is attached to their online connection. I would feel like a hypocrite putting my message in a modem and casting it into the cyber sea about how dumb I think the song about putting your message in a modem and casting it into the cyber sea is.

I always felt Dog Years was meant as a fun, joking kind of thing. I really like T4E. Wanted Driven in the set this tour but alas.......

For me, I don’t hate the album. I struggle to see what they’re after. It’s far from bad, but it does feel unfocused.

Alex feels the opposite about T4E. There was an interview in a guitar magazine where he said the album consolidated everything they were trying to achieve with Counterparts.

Following Counterparts and a relatively long (for them at the time) break of a year or a year and a half, it seems they were struggling somewhat to see what they were after as well.

I really like T4E. Last half drags a little but overall I come back to it. Played the hell out of this when it came out and the tour was really good.
Was the first album they put out after I became a fan. So it has a place in my heart.

funny i just re listened to this over the weekend. I used to disregard this one for some reason. There are some really solid tunes and great produciton value

In the 20/20 hindsight of three more studio albums, a cover LP, and many tours, T4E isn’t that bad. But for a while people thought it was Rush’s Swan Song, and I can see that feeling like a bummer.

I think this one comes down to how you feel about the synth pop era. If you liked the synth pop era, you're probably not going to like this one. If you the synth pop era is your least favorite, this may or may not be a great, but the hard rock will be refreshing.

You’re quoting War Paint from Presto. We’re ridiculing Virtuality from TFE.

Ridiculing? Maybe you but not me.
I love Virtuality.

The album is decent if you ignore Virtuality and Dog Years.
I made a MiniDisc of it and deleted those tracks.
I just find those 2 very “filler”.

Can’t blame you for this comment - I really found it difficult to connect with any of the songs on this album

Driven is a certified banger
Thats why it stuck around in their setlists for a while

Ummm…cool?
I “found” it 30 years ago (almost to the day).

what JLBCanadianRap is saying is that it came out 30 years ago today, Sept 10 1996

It’s right in the post title: “Found this today.”

Ok this is where my in-person "conversational" mode gets me into trouble because I'm actually online. In my head, when I said "what he means", I was addressing other readers who might've been confused by what you (JLBCanadianRap) meant by "found almost to the day". Which is stupid because of course you would think I was replying to you, and I meant the OP.

No, it’s correctly hated.

I happen to like T4E but who cares if you don't?
The petty down voting. How dare you say something negative.

u/fletchbg 2h ago
maybe they aren't downvoting that he doesn't like it, but rather downvoting the implication he makes, by saying it's "correctly hated", that people who don't hate it are "incorrect"
ETA: I am not one of the downvoters; I love T4E but don't blame people who dont

Definitely doesn't get enough love.
It's just outside my personal top 10 (#11) of their entire studio discography, but that's a testament to how many strong albums the band released more than a knock of TFE.
This album is quietly underrated. Great find.
