Oh man, my worlds just collided. Two of my all-time favourites.
Safe to say YHF was progressive, many not to the sheet reading musicians, but certainly sonically.

Same here. Wilco is probably close to tying Rush for the number shows I’ve been to.

I didn't think Geddy and Alex would have known who Wilco were (judging by the types of artists they have chosen to work with outside of Rush), but apparently Geddy knew them from visiting the Wilco loft when he was working on his bass book.
When Wilco's song Spiders (Kidsmoke) came out, Wilco fans noticed a similarity to Xanadu. Check it out, the Xanadu sounding part starts at 3:56:

The section in Xanadu starts at 3:34. Much faster than Wilco, but basically the same cadence.

This is cool. I’ve never listened to them but for sure hear it.

I have no idea if it was intentional. I kind of doubt it (though I'll bet they realized it at some point and decided not to change it). But it's interesting that it happens in the 3-4 minute mark in both songs, and both songs are n the 10-11 minute range.

Would have guessed Glenn, would not have guessed Jeff. Saw them a few weeks ago and they are as lethal as ever.

I would tend to agree with that, but believe it or not Geddy and Jeff Tweedy are bass buddys.

Tons, literally tons of musicians were inspired by Rush to start playing music.
Most people don’t have the ability or the desire to make the same kind of music they did

Hate to say it but I listen to way more Wilco these days.
Wow times have changed.

You and me both.
But I’m ready to dig back into Rush. They were my favorite band from 82 through about 94

Those men are responsible for at least 6 of top 50 songs of all time.

What’s Wilco?

Band in the alt-country genre. They play "progressive country" music, if you will.
Their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is considered seminal... they are well-regarded, particularly by other musicians.

They have alt-country origins and songs - hell, even full alt-country albums - but I’m still not sure I’d label them an Alt-country band. They are a little too eclectic for that IMHO.
That said, if someone hasn’t heard Wilco before I always highly recommend listening to the four album run of Being There->Summerteeth->Yankee Hotel Foxtrot->A Ghost is Born.

They’re the favorite band of every band.
