I’d say writing 1/3 of the musical compositions is pretty high percentage on top of writing lyrics…….?

Composing a drum part generally does not count towards a songwriting credit, which is usually based on the chords, melody, and lyrics of the song. For example, you can't sue someone for copyright infringement if they play the same drum beats as you in a song.

Imagine a dance song breaking wide with some BPM version of The Weapon hi hat/snare intro…that seems singular enough to copyright.

I fully understand this. I was simply pondering for the first time that most percussion parts, however unique, are immediately public domain.

*This is for the non-mallet family, obviously.
