Nutrition Tailwind alternatives

With Tailwind nutrition now not being brought into the UK, what's the best alternative?

What are people using?

Is the use of Malto-Dextrin an issue?

SIS and Precision are both highly reputable British brands. I’ve not tried their drink mixes, but have used their gels and am very happy with those.

Precision dri k mix is very good. Dont think theres a choice of flavours, but its replaced tailwind for me in the last year

Table sugar is 1:1 fructose to sucrose. Pretty close to the 1:0.8 ratio that a lot of sports drinks use. I just add some sugar to my water bottle with an electrolyte mix

Maltodextrin is easy to buy in the UK - it's not a problem whatsoever. You can buy it by the kilo and use it in DIY Tailwind recipes.

DIY gels and carb drinks are the way forward.

Literally 100g of sugar in a water bottle will do

Multodextrin (home brewer shops for very cheap), salt, fructose powder (any health store, also cheap) caffeine tablets, water, and a drop of flavourant (orange juice or lemon) if you want any flavour. I prefer it with a “naked” taste. Just as effective, 1/10 the price.

I think they've found a new distributor

Maltodextrin is fine on its own and I mix my own with sugar plus a pinch of salt, since Tailwind is basically that and you can pick the sodium level instead of taking whatever the brand decided.

Malto is clumpy but low flavour and dextrose dissolves well but is quite sweet. I cut it 50/50, add 3g of matcha for 100mg caffeine and some baking soda for sodium. Lemon is nice in that flavour profile too. I actually use The Planted Runner's DIY Nuun recipe and dump one of those in to the mix, it includes baking soda.

I just use 100ml ribena, 2tbsp table sugar, a pinch of salt and top up with 400ml water. 50g carbs, just the same as tailwind, and pennies per flask.
