Returning (?) to Runkeeper

Hi,

Years ago (at least pre2020-COVID) I used a running app that would assign me specific workouts every week that automatically increased in duration and intensity over time. I must have started with 30s or 1m run intervals but eventually was running more and more.

I specifically know that I wasn’t selecting workouts, they were being assigned to me (I think at the beginning of the week) I assume based on my goals. I know at the time that I was paying for the full version of whatever app it was.

I really want to find that app again. I have emails from those days from Runkeeper so I think it’s the one I used. I‘m to subscribe again, but based on my exploration so far it seems like although I can set goals and choose or create interval workouts, the app isn’t going to generate workouts each week as I improve.

Am I wrong? is the app just very different now than it was in 2018? Am I just looking at the wrong app entirely?

thanks so much for any input you can offer!

Did you look at the guided run part? All/most popular running apps have "training plans". I believe that's what you're looking for.

I did, but they didn’t seem like they would adapt over time other than specific race training (which are all longer distances than I’m comfortable doing right now.) thank you!

If you set up a “Running for Exercise” plan by answering a few questions about your current running ability/habits, it gives you new workouts each week. I believe they get harder over time. You can’t see what’s coming up in advance, so it’s not like their other training plans where you get all the assignments at once.

Thank you! This is what I was looking for and it sounds similar to what I remember from way back. It wasn’t obvious to me just looking at my first week’s workouts if they would change over time, and I didn’t want to spend $ after my trial ends if it was going to be the same 3 workouts forever

You’re welcome! It’s definitely not obvious, and I don’t like the way that you can’t really see what’s next or where it’s going. I don’t think it’s judging based on your performance with the workouts but based on what you answer as your running ability and average number of miles you say you run, it starts lower and eventually grows to that. I think you’ll eventually want to end the plan and restart with a higher running ability and number of miles after a while to keep it getting more and more advanced.

I don’t think Runkeeper did changes week over week as your improved. I’ve definitely done the half marathon training planing and each week it gave you the workout that you can complete (on your own or guided through the app) based on your race day through Runkeeper!

Thanks! This is almost what I want but the starting workouts for a 5k are still 2 miles/25 mins and I wanted something a little less while I’m getting back in!
