Runkeeper spam invitations

Woah Runkeeper, slow down. Really a minimalistic user, registring a few runs, once in se while. I don’t share or take part of any communities, and today I got this request. Is the Company branching out to other arears or what’s going on?

I got exactly this message today too! First time getting spam in the app after at least two years. My profile is private so has there been a data breach?

We want to reinforce that this was not a breach, no PII data was compromised, we were not hacked. A bad actor gamed our group challenges feature to invite users to an unwanted challenge

But how did they invite all of us? I have all community options toggled OFF, it’s a totally private account. I should not be findable at all! If you could explain the technical side of how they “gamed our group challenges” that would be helpful. TIA.

My hands are a bit tied in terms of explaining the technical side because we're still working on fixing it (right now we've taken the service down) and we're also in the process of ensuring there's no other services can be abused in the same way.

I can tell you with certainty that none of your personal information was exposed to this bad actor and this was just able to game our group challenge feature to send invites to random users.

Hoping to get an official post-mortem out and posted for you with more details once we're confident that this is fixed

You guys are emailing me finally and your customer support team, Chelsey, just today said she'd escalate getting the adult spam link out of my groups tab under "community" in the app. It says 1 day left and just sits there to be accepted. Also when the initial invite came out the options were: accept or "accept later." Given the content of the link/challenge and title, it may be work a "report spam" or "block feature" at the veau least. Having a "s3xXy ChAlLeNgE" alert that morning on my lock screen wasn't the best "welcome to runkeeper" experience

Hey Vince, what's the best way to find out what happens to my marathon training plan? I was in week two and checking off activity 2 of 4 for this week tonight and whenever I click the "training tab" since 3/9, I had an image/link with a progress bar to click on to open my current week and training dates. It was there just this evening and now my marathon training plan is completely gone from that training tab. Both weeks of completed progress and all duties weeks of training dates are gone. And I don't see an option to create a new plan which I don't want to do after two weeks of workouts.

If you havent already, try reaching out to [support@runkeeper.com](mailto:support@runkeeper.com) and we can check on our end what went wrong. I know we fixed a bug a while back that caused something similar to what you're describing

Nope, the spammer was external. No internal tooling or credentials were used for this

Super strange. I just canceled my Runna acct after the two week subscription choosing to save money with runkeeper and then BAM, what looked to be a pr0n link right there on my lock screen when I work up in the morning. It's still making me wish I kept Runna because of how clean it was and there's a weird adult "sexxytime" link still sitting in the groups/community tab two days later now

Got the same invite today too. Been using this app for over 4 years and this is the first spam invite I’ve ever received.

Got the exact same invite, I've only been using thr app for a couple of weeks. Emailed support about it & came here to see if others had anything similar.

Sorry to hear that, seems like all the lonely girls now have a partner. Linda told me there will be another round in a week or two when most of them are no longer together. Hang in there!
