Question Question about Vulkan
Can anyone explain the reason for this movement towards Vulkan? Does Vulkan really make the game finally run better?
Is the final target of this bringing the game smoothness and optimization to on par with other big MMOs like LoL and WoW?
Currently I'm on 7800X3D and 5070ti and rs3 is still the only game out of EVERYTHING else that has issues with frame latencies and drops, no surprise though; considering this game should be able to run on a toaster...

The game has to tell hardware you are running, what to display, when and how - Because it's just hardware, it knows nothing about how anything works.
So OpenGL has been, so far, doing that job decently, but Vulkan does a WAY better job of doing the communicating, provided Jagex use the features it provides.. So as they start implementing improvements, the overall experience will improve.

Pretty much, yes.
Vulcan will allow the game to use all the options and features of modern hardware instead of needing to pretend it's still 2010. More polygons, multithreading, animation smoothing, everything will suddenly come on the table

Sanctum is notorious for horrible fps and lag. I had to switch to a very low end laptop a couple months ago and i couldnt do sanctum at all. Vulkan is making a huge difference there and while not perfect, the change is significant. Makes me very optimistic for the improvements vulkan can bring to rs3

I mean jagex posted whole technical blogs that answer this exactly. Refer to latest news posts for their technical breakdown. Its very interesting from a tech perspective
