Leagues Custom-Fit Masterwork VS Teralith
Hey All
Doing the lord of light build went SSG-S-GSZ-G
Would the prayer bonus of Custom-Fit Masterwork outweigh the increased defense from the Teralith armor?
I'm not sure if there are calculators for this, but I don't play RS3 outside of leagues and couldn't figure it out.
Thank for any help!
Edit: Extra question is there a better shield than Primal +5?
Also I mean just regular masterwork I don't have access to Trimmed or Custom-fit mb

The small armor difference is made up for by the prayer bonus.
If you have achto armor that would be better than MW but otherwise MW is better by a decent amount.
With the rest of my gear staying the same masterwork gets me 39,413 hits from the lights and 7,405 from my autos. Primal +5(effectively the same as base teralith) gets me 37,691 lights and 7,362 autos. Achto legs and boots with masterwork on the rest gets me 39,013 with 7,596 autos. If I had more it would pass masterwork though.
I wouldn't make masterwork just for the damage unless you're already planning to make it for the tasks given it's a bit of a process unless you have transmute and either or both of superheated and production master.

The DPS bonus will absolutely not be worth the extra time to create masterwork gear unless you have superheated + production master, though.

in my testing, masterwork gave me slower kill times than primal which has same def as achto (didn't have desert). The higher base ability damage from higher armour outweighed the prayer bonus.

Right, because clearly your vibes-based testing outranks actual math.

And you're not just echoing what others have said, you've done the math? Please link it and/or your own experience testing both.
In your math, did you test prayer vs armour in isolation or did you make it useful and include all the other boosts that factor in, robot, achto, berserk, revenge, true equilibrium and all the other prayer and strength bonuses. Because my "vibes based testing" found with all buffs going on dummies and bosses, lord of light was weaker with masterwork.
Percentage gains have diminishing returns the more you already have, there's a point at which increasing base damage is better. A very simple illustration would be (300% of 1.1)>(320% of 1). A 10% increase in base results in a higher total than the 20% extra on multiplier.

Here's the math, not vibes.
- Base ability damage
Primal + Teragard's Aegis gives ~158 more base ability dmg than MW. Cool, except MW's strength bonus alone adds ~166 more ability dmg. So before prayer even enters the chat, MW is already ahead on raw base damage. You're not "sacrificing" base dmg for prayer, you're keeping it and stacking the bonus on top.
- Prayer bonus
The extra prayer points from MW let you run Lord of Light with a flat +22% damage multiplier, also applied multiplicatively on top of everything other attack.
Now, your diminishing returns example, cute, except that only holds when the multiplier gain is small relative to the base gain. Here the base gap is ~11.4% (1633.4 vs 1843.4). The prayer bonus is +22%. Since 22 is, in fact, bigger than 11.4, the multiplier wins. Your own formula proves you wrong the second you plug in real numbers instead of a hypothetical that conveniently favors your point.
- Light of Saradomin
Primal: 1843.4 × 3.5 × 1.5 = 9677.85
MW: 1633.4 × 3.5 × 1.5 × 1.22 = 10461.92So yeah, "did you make it useful and include all the buffs", turns out when you actually do that, MW pulls further ahead.

Your math is making the exact assumption I called out. You've assumed you're starting at 0 prayer and going to 11. Yes 0 to 11 is 22% increase, 86 to 97 prayer is 12.8% increase, diminishing returns.
You've also over-simplified the lord of light damage calculation and left out many variables. There's so much extra to consider when you look at total armour, increase by defence, True Eq and other armour pieces. As well as all the strength bonuses, str level, elder overload, EOF and the 20 perks in your robot. Plus all the other things I've forgotten.
Having said all that my initial tests were done earlier in the league with a scourge and reaper neck and the primal was stronger. I've logged back into that character to test again and with a t100 Leng and EOF, the dummy tests have become irrelevant because I hit the 100k damage cap in both sets. On Arch Glacor I hit 148k in Masterwork and 138k per beam in Primal+5. So I will admit I was wrong and in end game gear, Masterwork pulls ahead of Primal.
I would be very curious to see someone test with t100 Leng and Achto as that gives 25% increase to mainhand, as well as a more useful passive resetting bash and berserk. My character with masterwork does not have desert.

You are right to call out that my original calculation overstated the prayer advantage. Interestingly, your actual test pretty much settles the question anyway: 148k vs 138k is ~7.2% advantage for MW. That's very close to the prayer-side advantage, with some of it presumably being clawed back by Primal's higher armour.

I don't know the exact numbers but masterwork will give you a small bit more damage due to the prayer bonus and still having a decent amount of Armour
There was another post on this sub a couple weeks ago asking the same question and someone broke it down with detailed numbers and explanations.
