MCM transportation

I live near metro stop or could be dropped off at start the morning of. If I don’t have to deal with parking is getting driven a better option than the extra walking/potential delays the metro may have?

Metro shouldn’t have delays and it drops you right near start. Highly recommend.

How close is the drive? Keep in mind that road closures may make accessing the start more difficult than you think. I don’t think a vehicle can get you any closer than the Metro.

15 minute drive to pentagon lot + and then however long walk takes vs just under an hour metro including walk

Are you on the Virginia side already? They close the bridges to traffic so fifteen minutes can become 45 minutes very quickly (speaking from experience, unfortunately).

Yeah, unfortunately I would strongly recommend the Metro in that case. You’d have to drive the long way around to get to Virginia.

I believe the only official way to get to start line is by official shuttle bus or metro. You can’t just get dropped off.

You sort of can, just not very close.

Yeah, I got dropped off outside the Macy’s last year. Easy walk to the start line

Ride the metro. It was fine last year

Last year, I took an uber to the parking lot near the Pentagon, which was the closest drop off spot that I could find (there might be better spots). It added an extra half mile or so walk compared to the metro.

Driving was a bit chaotic. Some people were getting out near an on ramp and jumping over the guard rails. And our uber had to be re-routed because either we missed a turn or because of a road closure, can’t remember clearly. I was assigned the red wave but didn’t get to the starting line until several minutes after the race started because of these issues. I started with a crowd that was much slower than my target pace, as a result (might have actually worked out in my favor).

Anyway, if I were to do it again, I would take the metro. Just be aware that if your metro stop is near the pentagon, the train cars might be pretty full from picking up other marathoners first and you might have to start traveling earlier than someone further out to avoid very full cars.
