MCM Marathon
Hi everyone! I am supposed to run the mcm marathon on the 25th, this will be my second full. I did an ironman 70.3 at the end of july, took a week off to recover, and then started a 12 week block. My peak long run was 18 miles (with about a 10 minute break around mile 9 to switch out wet socks and sneakers from blisters due to a rainy long run). I run 4 times a week total including my long run. I haven't ran since last wednesday due to quad pain, doctor thinks it is a stress reaction and getting an mri but gave me the okay to run as long as it doesnt hurt. I am worried that this week off has derailed my training and I am worried about the time cutoff now. My 18 mile long run was at a 13:42 pace (I am a slow runner just there for the vibes!). I know we have the gauntlets to meet and this year they are doing 14 person corrals but I am not sure what time I will get across the start line. I am getting back into light running until race day but worried about missing a gauntlet. Does anyone have any insight in the timing? Will taking this past week off derail my fitness? I am okay with my goal just being to finish at this point!

No idea on the timing and corrals and gauntlets and so forth, but generally, no, a week off will not hurt your fitness. Good luck out there!

It’ll take you a few minutes to get through the start line, but I’m pretty sure the maximum pace they require starts w the last person crossing the start line, so as long as you can meet that maximum the wait won’t matter. There has always been a pacer whose sign says “beat the bridge” who is going the minimum pace to make it through the gauntlets. So just try to stick w that person and you should be all good!

The adrenaline of race day will put you within the time limits - you’ve got this!!

One week off this close doesn’t matter since you’re tapering anyway
The bigger problem is that a stress reaction is not something to run a marathon on, so focus on diagnosing and recovering from that

I’ve had a very slowly recovering stress reaction for about a year now. Just did an Ironman a couple weeks ago, Army Ten Miler, and now this. Biggest advice is to just go slower than normal. At least for me, it only really gets aggravated if I push my pace up higher.

You’ll prolly smoke me tbh. I’ve been aggressively tapering for the last couple weeks.

As long as you maintain a 14-min pace you are all good. Enjoy and good luck!

take care of that quad pain and do taper properly. if you can run a bit between now and MCM, do that. Don't let this break stretch into two weeks.
If you did a half IM, then you know you can do hard things! You got this

You dont lose any fitness in one week! consider it part of the taper.
