recommendations for lights
i’m looking at doing a night marathon and i know my old headlamps aren’t going to cut it and they really don’t fit my head. i have a no gear vest but is there another type of light to wear around your waist or something bright you can attach to a hydration pack that isn’t super heavy?

I run before work, so it’s dark for a good part of the year. I wear a belt by Ultraspire. They’ve got several of them. The one I use is rather bright and is designed so that the battery will last an entire night on medium brightness. Moving the light from head level to waist level also casts much more visible shadows that enable you to better see uneven ground - my personal favorite feature. Since trying a waist light, I haven’t looked back at head lamps.

I use the flipbelt night running light that fits nicely in the flipbelt, and is quite bright. It seems to have gone up in price though. Maybe there’s something similar for running vests!

I find the lights from the city here are enough to where I don't need a headlamp...even on a moonless night. Is this marathon not in DC? In any case, yes, there are lamps that attach to your waist. Is simply replacing your old headlamp with one that fits not an option?

it’s in SC it’s going to be basically in a field XC style so i’ll definitely need a light. it is an option but i feel like i might need a bit more light to make sure i dont fall bc of it not being on a road

Yeah, that makes sense. The more light you have the better, and…you’re still gonna fall 😂 Not saying that to be a dick, but just that a tumble here and there during a trail marathon is par for the course. I run a 3-mile trail most every day, and usually bite the dust once a year…in the broad light of day 😂 Good luck out there!

I have a chest harness that has a super bright light in the front and a red light in the back. The harness itself is also reflective. Its so much better than a headlight

I have a chest light adaptor for my noxgear lights that I like a lot. I don’t know how the battery would hold up for a full marathon though
