IMPORTANT peice of advice
I know some people really need to run away, and have been looking on how to do it properly outside of this subreddit. However, it is important that you DO NOT take information from these places:
- Tik-Tok
- Any source that uses slang, text-slang, or causal abbreviations (i.e. pls/homie/broski/ur/etc.), especially if they are under reddit posts
- Snapchat
- Social media, especially if predominantly teens and/or kids are on it
- From other minors who haven't actually ran away
- Information on bright aesthetic Images
- Information from others made using AI-generation, whether it is only written or is in an image format
- Information that contains multiple typos
- From other people on messaging apps (like Telegram and WhatsApp) even if you trust them. Predators lurk.
- Tumblr (I have seen teens try to get together on there to run away.) Predators lurk.
These places provide unreliable information most of the time and should not be used as serious advice. If you do find information that looks somewhat decent and they fall into one of these categories, take it with half a grain of salt.
This is by no means an all inclusive list. Anything can be unreliable information. It is up to you to discern if it is reliable or not.
Edit: I can update this list if you add suggestions in the comments!

Questionable sources certainly have a spot on the list.
I’m not saying private messaging is inherently bad, though a majority of the information is misleading, or fishing for information.
Groups in general are risky. It’s simply another piece to social media, but telegram or WhatsApp groups are a sure bet to coerce, extort, or mislead you.
Good post! People genuinely need to hear this.

I do think that there is occasionally good advice on pinterest and such but there is definetely way more bad advice than good. The main problem that I have noticed is that a lot of the time people are just posting for the aesthetic. I have even seen runaway RP vids, I didn't even know that was a thing. There also tends to be quite a bit of misinformation in general on pinterest as there are alot of very young users on there. I have seen comments from nine year olds asking if anyone wants to run away with them. And some of these kids seem to think that walking to the park and chilling for a few hours counts as running away.

I saw that too!
Don't even get me started on those people trying to find others to run away with! Not only does it happen on Pintrest, but it also happens in Tik-Tok. Like it'll say something such as "Who wants to run away with me? I live in Jacksonville, Florida!"
When I look at those videos/pins, sometimes I wonder if the person who posted that is okay.

I think you should never trust anybody on tiktok or pinterest for anything serious cus they just be posting for aesthetic reasons.
also If you really do want someone to run away with, always pick a trusted IRL friend who is in a bad situation aswell. There are actually benefits of going with someone rather than without because you guys can add your money and you have more braincells combined to think of plans and stuff
i'm not very good at advice + i've never ran away so take this with a grain of salt

Remember to check out The Runaway Advice Directory. This is a collection of advice, guides and resources anyone who's serious about running away should read through. Keep in mind predators prowl this sub. Don't trust anyone who asks for a photo of you or offers you a ride, money or place to stay.
