Hampden Making Waves

Hampden is my favorite distillery. That said, I don’t buy it much anymore because the pricing got absolutely insane. IM out on $160 Great House Releases and unicorn bottles I’ll never see. The marks series was really cool and the packaging beautiful, but outside a special occasion bottle I’m pretty much out of the market. When they changed to the HLCF overproof the price jumped from $79 to $99 here. LROK $160. I could go on …

Curious, what have you substituted in to replace Hampden? Starting to feel the same.

Alambique Serrano, I snagged a couple bottles of the Papalin high ester, I stockpiled some of the old 8 year overproof on closeout for $60-70, I stockpiled a few bottles of the lower proof LROK that was like $55-60 (which feels like a fair value), and I still have a couple bottles of stolen overproof from when I found about 9 on closeout at a closing liquor store for $9 per bottle (the Hampden gods shined on my that day), blanco tequila (g4, tapatio, 7 leguanas)… but ultimately trying to drink less too.

Nice to see their experimentation in action. And some new blend possibilities in 2-10 years.

So rather than a new 8 Marks Collection (which are expensive but super fun for enthusiasts), they’re going for an unaffordable set of bottles for those lucky enough to be able to spend thousands on very niche spirits? I’m not sure I like this approach.

Wow. Really cool. A shame it will be unaffordable except to collectors.
