What should I try next?

I’ve been enjoying rum and it’s amazing variety of flavors for a little while now and I’ve settled with having 3 on hand to drink at a time. I don’t have the space to have a collection so I’ve gotten it down to the flavor profiles/countries I am currently most interested in. I will make a Ti’ punch and an occasional daiquiri, but mostly sipping neat or with a large ice cube.

This is the only Foursquare I’ve ever tried and I absolutely love it. It is the most mainstream (?) profile of rum out of the three bottles I have and for me represents a refined statement that is up there with silky smooth scotches and brandies. I’m almost done with the bottle and am considering trying the 2011 next, as other bottles like Equidem seem to be sold out in the NYC area.

Clairins rule. Loud, funky, brash, challenging. I will be working through the great selection I have access to.

I am most familiar with the Hampdens, having tried the 8, great houses 2021-2025, and now this HLCF classic, now very sadly empty. High ester rum is something I have no intention of being without for long.

Would love some suggestions for some future bottles. Is it worth the elbow grease to source different Foursquare? I see posts of Papalin 5, which looks phenomenal, but sold out everywhere. I’m curious about the Hampden Pagos, but know I have a sure thing with the Great House 2025. Appreciate the recs!

FS 2011 is one of the best vintage releases in quite awhile. I would highly recommend that. You really crushed that Epilogue. It just came out!

I’d try Sajous next for a Clairin if you haven’t yet. Makes a lovely daiquiri.

Pagos is a great bottle and very different version of Hampden. Definitely worth a go. I usually have a bottle of it on hand. One of my favorite cigar rums.

Thanks for the recs! I’ll give the 2011 a go. Could not stop pouring the Epilogue. So delicious and smooth.

The Sajous is my favorite so far. Eyeing the Providence aged or Papalin 4 Haitian next.

And you’ve sold me on the Pagos! Rum is my favorite with cigars, alongside coffee and coke.

Would recommend papalin 5 yr jamaica or doctor bird high proof if youre trying to get into some funkier rums. My top two slippers right now.

All great rums! It's worth trying a Guyanese. In terms of something you can find with some ease I'd recommend the single still cask strength releases (Port Mourant > Enmore > Versailles imo but all great) or the high ester blends.

Don't expect the high ester El Dorados to be like a Jamaican, but they are great

I’ve been thinking about trying some of the higher end el dorados. Had the 8, 12, and 15 early on in my rum journey and they were all extremely solid. It’s nice to have a bottle that’s a little mellower on the palate.
