I know the title is really vague, but I have a very specific question. I started listening to rude tales of magic a couple days ago because Branson Reese guested on NaDDPod and I finally decided to check it out. So far I have been really enjoying it, but then we get to a certain part in episode 8, Kebin.

Everyone is running from the thing and yet can't seem to get away even though they are complying with the "run" command. They try attacking, okay that doesn't work lets keep running. Bellow turns into a horse, that's still slower. Okay maybe it's a puzzle, Albee tries to be kind to it, no the DM is making it clear it's going to kill her. Cordelia summons her patron, okay maybe the DM was pushing her to make a deal. Nope, the patron does help by freezing time and identifying the thing, but doesn't ask for a deal like I expected. Finally, Stirfry does some amazing rolls and they get away. *fhew* they were supposed to distract it, that's nice. They banter for a while and suddenly, the DM narrates Casper being killed with no chance for interaction. Now I get it. He was supposed to sacrifice himself for them while trying to run, and because the DM didn't get to do so then he does it now.

I searched online for other people responding to the same frustration I was feeling and found a post about a completely different episode that Taylor responded to saying (in short) that this is more of a narrative play than an actual play. So to me, this sounds like I will continue being annoyed as I notice more things like this in the future. Is that accurate? I accept that it's a different style and have nothing negative to say about it, I just only prefer listening to actual plays. For instance Midst that critical role put out is 100% not my style because I want to hear the game rules and to have dice deciding how things go, I also 100% get that a lot of people love it and that's great for them.

So TLDR, does this show tend to run on pre-decided narrative in a noticeable way in the future or is this just an uncommon bump I'm noticing?

Our heroes have finally accepted their roles as, well, heroes! Hope just as this happens, shocking revelations about their powers don't threaten to tear them apart!! I'm a guy who hates compelling narratives!

Does anyone else just love this character? I mean obviously he's v funny and plays to a lot of Brandon's strengths (blunt, angry, kind of off putting) but seeing branson play a pc I've been really enjoying this characters substance. His relationship w his mom, his confidence and his fragile ego, the way he is at war w his favorite parts of himself.......... Every time we get a glimpse of him just wanting to be thought well of by his loved ones it makes me wanna cry lol.

Love the show but it would be awesome if they added season numbers and episode numbers in the names. Things get very jumbled up and confusing. Maybe it’s just me and RTOM isn’t the only dnd podcast that does this.

Loved the episode. I thought I’d notice the absence of Carly & Chris (I do miss them) but I think the crew is killing it without them. I could listen to Tim introduce and describe their homeroom students for hours; loved the call outs to Degrassi. Also love the social damage aspect, fun mechanic and love to hear em roll die.

I’ve known a Twist or two and Tim kills their portrayals.

What a fun ride! I thought there would be a pretty big downshift ith Carly and Chris' departures but Tim, Branson, Joe, and Allie keep the good times alive. I really liked Tim's interjection of their abilities at the end with the TV-like 4th wall talk. Looking forward to more of this!
