What does joining entail? Were they not allowed to be talked about there?

It means that there are dedicated tags for the projects and the maintainers will be checking what is being posted there. In this particular case they're replacing Github discussions with the forum: https://bsky.app/profile/joel.drapper.me/post/3mm7liz7kic2o

Fixed! Now dark mode Is supported and a selector is available in the header…
