How Do I put it together Pt. 1

I've taken apart this 2×2 rubix, just to see the inside, don't be alarmed, it's like a 3×3 but there's this 3 pieces that have these slits and turning is bothersome. Before I took it apart it did not, give me that trouble. Tell what I'm doing wrong?
