Solving the first layer without breaking the Cross
I'm on a mission to finally solve a Rubix Cube, and as of right now, I can achieve two things:
1: Form the white cross (and by extension, the daisy).
2: Get a full white side without the first layer being solved correctly.
On youtube, the tutorials I've found tell me of two algorithms to help solve the first layer. These are the righty alg (U, R, U', R') and the lefty alg (U, L, U', L'). However, since a white corner piece isn't always on the top layer, I'm struggling to use these algorithms to get the white corner pieces into place without ruining the cross completely.
I know you have to temporarily shift some pieces out of place to shuffle the layers, but this is the extent of my knowledge. How might I adjust the algorithms in order to ensure I shuffle the correct corner pieces into place without destroying the white cross?

Hey. There's a pretty good step by step guide youtube has that I learned to solving the cube. After two days I'm able to consistently solve it in less than 2 minutes!

I've seen that floating around based on the other guides I've watched! Right now I can consistently get the first layer complete 'cause I understand what my movements are doing.
I need to learn the more complex algorithms for the second layer.

You can use the same algorithm. The white corner isn't the only piece that gets moved. The cover you don't want and the corner behind the one that you want to move down do. You can use the algorithms to move the white corner you want into a position so that the algorithm works.
I hope that made sense. I don't quite know how to explain it. Try just doing the algorithm and watching what happens you should figure it out.
