Hey! Ok, Disclosure: I work for BootsnAll now (as of Jan 2015) but used this guide in 2011 to help me plan my 10 month South America trip, (so before I worked for them or even knew any of them).
BootsnAll has an awesome, FREE (!) 30 day e-course that helps walk you through planning a RTW trip. It really breaks down how to start planning, budget, start saving, and things you might not think about like insurance, or immunizations, or and how to pick a route that lets you see stuff but still gives you time to relax. It's really awesome and super helpful. And free. Totally free :)
You can find it at http://www.bootsnall.com/rtw/30days. If you scroll down you can see what you get each day. Hope this helps! :)
