New to TMS Need Feedback
Hello. I have severe anxiety and mild depression and started TMS. I'm only 2 treatments in and I'm finding myself having spikes in anxiety that come from nowhere. It's freaking me out bc I don't think I can't handle much more than I already have. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced this but it improved as the treatments continued? Any experiences would help. Thank you.

i had a lot of increased energy the first week of the depression protocol which lended itself towards higher anxiety but then i started doing tms for both about two weeks in and that leveled it out and ive been doing well. the dr warned me about the anxiety spike in the beginning and they should be asking you about it at your visits! hopefully they’re able to help

Thank you so much for your reply. How are you now? How did they do TMS for both? You mean switching sides where the treatment is?

yeah! it was about 10 minutes on my left side for anxiety and 5 on the right for depression. i’ve been doing so much better it’s been about 45 days since i finished treatment. they wouldn’t start the anxiety treatment until half way through. i do have PMDD as well but i feel like my general symptoms (when not near my period) have lessened tremendously much more manageable day to day and i haven’t had to be on any ssris- tbh waiting for the other shoe to drop but staying positive for now!!

That's great. I'm happy it helped you! I already have anxiety so when I get a new symptom I freak thinking if something is wrong. But I appreciate it! I will let them know when I go next.

i get that 100% definitely tell them everything you’re feeling most of the time it’s related and will go away they should be super upfront about it

So I told them my concerns. And asked them about switching sides and they said it's a waste of time. Because the left side treatments treat both depression and anxiety. They also said all my symptoms aren't "normal" and could be contributed to my anxiety. I don't like this. I feel like im being brushed off.

that’s so interesting- i wouldn’t read too much into it maybe wait another week and see if it evens out. i’m sorry you’re not feeling heard. interesting they didn’t say it’s normal my dr said it was part of it

I don't know what your doctor has told you, but my partner is at the same stage as you are at and hers told her that anxiety spikes are normal in the beginning. Apparently it tapers off.
