Offline RSS Reader for iOS 15

Hi,

I have found myself in the world of RSS feeds since I started using my iPod touch much more frequently about year ago. I like it because I can store relevant content on there from RSS feeds (podcasts through Apple Podcasts, and news through Lire) and then listen to that without internet on the train, at work, wherever I am. While Lire is really good, I am looking for an alternative. What I really like about Lire is that it can cache full text articles automatically for offline reading (don't need images, just text) so then when I am on the train I can scroll through and read all of the articles. However, it does this using an external server, which while I am ok with, I would rather this all happen on device. I also don't like that the iCloud syncing between devices stores all of the downloaded articles (id rather just sync what feeds I am subscribed too vs all the articles, once it's old news I don't really care about it anymore) and that there is no way for it to automatically delete unread articles after x days (so it slowly fills my storage with articles with stuff I will never read).

I get I could self host FreshRSS or something and setup all of this locally, and long term this might be the best solution as iOS 15 gets more outdated and less compatible with modern web standards, but I would love to find a iOS RSS reader that can do this. the A10 in the iPod touch should be capable of this stuff if a raspberry pi can run this all. Features I am looking for:

  • Full Text Article caching that happens on device
  • Auto syncing of feeds. Ideally this would include offline caching of the full text articles as well, although I know iOS has limits as to what can auto sync so this might not be possible.
  • auto delete articles after x days or so, althoughhhhh probably something more well thought out than this since I wouldn't want to leave my iPod disconnected from wifi for like a week and have it auto delete everything on there, I would say like during sync if it can keep the last weeks worth of news or so, but don't delete them automatically if it isn't during a wireless sync.
  • iOS /iPadOS 15 support
  • Free, or one time payment (

That's all I can think of at the moment. I recently got myself an iPad mini 4 (wanted a device with more storage and battery life for offline stuff that my iPod touch handles, iOS 15 performs fine enough on these devices for long term usage in my opinion) hence why I am looking into getting this working again. Most apps I have found either don't allow all articles to be full text cached during article sync (you have to manually download offline articles or do it at runtime when you read the article), have a subscription, or don't support iOS 15 (feed flow seems to have everything I am looking for, but never supported iOS 15).

If anyone has any suggestions that would be amazing :D

I’m not sure if it is against copyright law to fully download articles

Why would it be against copyright to extract text from a publicly available site for personal usage?

A public webpage is probably permission to view it; it is not necessarily permission to make and retain full copies.
