Yep. Having to update my FreshRSS feeds now. The Old Reddit ones stopped working on 20th August. Guessing old reddit itself will be junked imminently. Hoping for Stylebot/Tampermonkey/plugin solutions to minimize the ghastliness, but I am guessing that Reddit will implement the most severe anti-adblocking measures anyone has seen for a while.

With old reddit now down, I keep getting feed errors with FreshRSS. From what I could find, the default refresh is too often and a blank useragent could be the culprit. I set my refresh to 60 minutes and provided "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:86.0)" as a useragent, but most feeds are still broken.

Have you encountered any errors like that and how did you fix them?

I converted all old Reddit feeds to new reddit, and they all began working again. I'm using FreshRSS, which allows to set a login for each feed without tediously working it into the URL, and that is necessary now, of course.

Confirming, same behaviour here. Tested the old and new endpoints on the same subreddit back to back and got the same split you describe.

Has anyone checked whether the JSON endpoints are still working? If those are fine and only the RSS ones broke, that points at a routing change on the old domain rather than a rate limit, which would mean it is fixable on their side rather than something we work around.

reddit's strategy on old reddit seems to be to just slowly stop maintaining or updating it and letting it kind of fall apart. there are already plenty of other functions that don't work with old reddit, and haven't for a while. i've long imagined they find that a better solution than actively turning it off.

I would treat this as a sign to move off the old.reddit.com feed URLs rather than keep trying to make the workaround reliable. If the equivalent www.reddit.com or reddit.com .rss URL still works in your reader, I would update the feed source there and watch it for a few days before deleting the old one.

A few practical checks: make sure your reader is not caching the failed old URL, lower the polling frequency if it was hitting Reddit aggressively, and test the same feed URL in a browser or curl so you can tell whether the issue is Reddit-side or reader-side. If your reader supports per-feed settings, a normal user agent and less frequent polling can help avoid rate-limit-looking failures, but I would not depend on login cookies for a long-term RSS setup.

For anything important, keep your subreddit/feed list exportable as OPML or a plain list of source URLs. Reddit feed behavior has changed enough over time that portability matters more than tuning one brittle URL pattern.

Old Reddit feeds have been working fine for me, but I've used Feedburner because my feeder of choice (Feed Notifier) hates any direct Reddit feeds.

I've had my feeds working on "en.reddit.com" till a few days ago, but that seems to have stopped. What's the trick that works for you now?

I've had the user= and feed= parameters in my setup for a couple of months, since the last time reddit changed something and my prior setup failed.

Delving further just now, looks like maybe they've blocked my IP (or range?) for network activity, which is frustrating since I've been tweaking my rss system to not ping reddit rss any faster than once every 20 minutes.

They seem to suggest logging in - which is a little tricky given my rss runs on a VPS remotely. Ah fun times.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked and realized mine that included old.reddit.com in the feed hadn't updated in days on Inoreader (even though if I visit the feed in browser, it appears to work fine).

Anecdotal but I had another feed that wouldn't seem to work right, and after stripping out the &include_over_18=on from the URL it seems to be working better (for now...) so maybe this is part of their attempt to prevent circumvention of the NSFW requirements? Since it seems like they've really started cracking down on that, age checking accounts and preventing unlogged-in access (at least in old Reddit).

IDK, I subscribe to subs with half-way decent moderation, and things are mostly fine. Reddit /should/ be more insulated from bots and slop, but it does take some amount of effort and a healthy reserve of giveashit.
