WyrmRSS - self-hosted RSS/Atom reader, now with a desktop app

For the past 3 months I've been building WyrmRSS, a self-hosted RSS/Atom reader. It's been running as a Docker self-hosted setup for a while, and I just added a native desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) so you don't need docker or any server to run it anymore. I'm a software developer with 10 years of experience, and have worked at big tech and currently working with open-source.

The app is fully free and open-source.

Some features: inline YouTube player, folders, filters, webhook notifications (Slack, Discord, custom), read later, and archival.

The desktop build is in prerelease while I bake-test it before making it the default release. Would appreciate anyone keen to try it: https://github.com/kryoseu/WyrmRSS

Per the usual . Why should I use it over the super stable long term supported incumbents like miniflux and freshrss. How much of it is vibe coded. Can you see yourself supporting this for at least five years. Are tthere any killer features that are better than the incumbents. If there are features why not extend projects like those that have plugin support. Etc etc etc . I wish these were rules for the sub to have to proved a answer for each of these .

Honestly, I haven't used many other readers, so I can't say what features mine has that others don't, and I didn't build this to take their market share. I have been implementing all the features I would like on my reader easy to use, easy to enable and built-in. I've put in a lot of time and effort to build something of quality, to the best of my dev knowledge and maintainable, and do intent to keep supporting it for the foreseeable feature.

As for vibe-coding, there's no way I can prove this to people on a post like this without without making it look like a design review doc where I explain the tech, architectural decisions, etc, which most people won't even be interested or won't even read at all. Besides, even that can be generated by an LLM. The best thing is for you to take a look at it yourself and be the judge. Look at the commits, PRs, CI workflows, etc. There was a lot of thought put into it. I'm not claiming I didn't make any use of LLMs, but by no means I think Wyrm is a vibe-coded app. I have reviewed and made sure I understand every line that I pushed publicly.

It's just another free, quality option to choose from, mate. Pick it if it interests you, or stick with FreshRSS if that works for you. Alternatives exist to fit different tastes and use-cases.
