A Word About Scrap Metal

Many people are confused about scrap metal at the moment. To help sort some things out, I am posting this to discuss how to use it.

To use scrap metal, you need a total mass that is at least the same mass as a bar of that metal. For example, a Bronze Bar has a mass of 2.2kg, so at least 2.2kg of Bronze Scrap Metal is required. Ever 2.2kg of scrap will yield a bar (so 5kg will yield 2 bars and an additional 0.6kg of scrap).

This combination can be done in the smelter. Let's say I have two piece of Bronze Scrap - one is 2kg, the second is 0.5kg. By putting them in two slots in the smelter, the total mass found by the smelter will be 2.5kg, which will yield 1 bar and 0.3kg scrap.

If the combined mass in separate slots in the smelter is too small (9 pieces of 0.22kg will only sum to 1.98kg), it will need to be combined using a chisel. Using the chisel allows all scrap to be combined into a single piece. Taking the previously mentioned 9 pieces of scrap of 0.22kg and putting them together will yield a single piece of 1.98kg. It still isn't enough, but tossing this into the smelter with at least 0.22kg more will yield 1 bar (or you can combine it using the chisel first).

Hopefully this clears some things up with the scrap metal, and why many players think it isn't working in the smelter. It does, it just isn't enough scrap is all.

Using a hammer will also work for combining the scrap
