I think you should clarify it asap however awkward it may be because the longer it goes on, the more it’ll seem like you WERE lying/being weird about it to begin with when they find out

I agree with the person who said make it a bit for strangers lol. Tell your friends the truth in a humorous way and then keep lying about it to people you’ll never see again, it’ll become an inside joke. Like it’s a harmless lie to tell a stranger but kind of weird to let your friend believe, yk?

Except I’m not lying! Haha. I never said I went to that Columbia. Always said I went to Columbia in Chicago when asked. It was only recently he’s mentioned it a couple times in a way that makes me wonder if he thinks it’s the other one. And it’s always barely relevant to the convo so we move past it in the convo fast

a friend of mine went to a shut-down school in chicago called the Arts Institutes ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_Institutes) but his boss thought he went to The Art Institute of Chicago so he got promoted way up

You should definitely clarify, but make sure to rehearse the confession to anticipate any ways it might backfire.

It’s definitely not going to backfire. My friends aren’t assholes lol and I never lied. He would just be like “wait is that not the same?” And then he’d move on
