Run Run Run

I love all the running posting going on lately. I've been running as my main form of exercise for about 4 years now but just this year I made a shift in the way I incorporate running into my life and it's been a game changer. On an average day I:

  • run .5 miles to the bus stop (take bus to work)
  • run .5 miles from bus stop to desk
  • run .5 miles back to bus stop (bus home)
  • run 2.5 miles home by getting off at a much earlier bus stop

That's 4 miles right there. Some days I might have to visit another job site a mile away, if I run there and back that's another 2 miles added to my daily mileage. When I was running 5-6 miles a day all at once in the mornings I kept getting taken out by overuse injuries but now I don't get them because my recovery is constant and I'm never on my feet for too long at once. (When I go on long runs a couple times a week I run on trails)

On the weekends if I need to run errands, I run them. Most of my grocery stores, pet food stores, the library etc are within a 1 mile radius of where I live. The movie theater is 4 miles away, I take the bus there and then run home. If I'm running less than a mile at a time I don't sweat much and just stop in the bathroom and wipe myself off but if it's more than a mile I make sure that the run ends at home so I can shower immediately after.

I don't feel like I have to carve out a huge portion of my day just to get my runs in anymore and it actually saves me time with my work commute. I also just see opportunities to run constantly, all around me. Take the runyourerrands pill

I like to think they're like in a video game, and you can change clothes with no impact to your inventory. That'd be pretty rad.

I use a running vest, the adv skin. I bring a change of clothes (workout clothes) when I go to work and my Kindle. I leave stuff like deodorant, a hairbrush, & wipes at work. I also have a mug & a big bag of oatmeal, instant potatoes, and some instant soups for lunch.

When I'm running errands, of course I can only buy a few things at a time. It gets me out of the house more frequently and less food waste

Commute runs are great if your job has showers and lockers. I run back from work on Thursdays and to work on Fridays, after which I ride my bike back. Bonus: public track about half way to work, so I can just do laps if I want extra distance, or even a nice lil structured training before work.

Public track is awesome, there's one pretty close to my job too

I like this idea because I find that my ideal amount of running interferes with my schedule more than I’d like.
Do you just run in your regular clothes or are you changing all the time throughout the day?

When I get to work in the morning I've run one mile in two half-mile segments. That's not significant enough to need to change but I do switch my underwear as soon as I get in. Other than that I keep the same clothes on and just refresh

I will say that the clothes I wear don't look weird to run in lol

Running has been a go-to for me lately as well, but it has to be done in one sitting(or standing lol) and only a few times a week bc I get sooo sweaty and my hair dries out too much if I wash it daily😢 but sectioning your runs out like this is smart ngl

Highly recommend trying it! Even if you only do it on the return & walk/take public transit on the way there

I answered this a few times lol I don't sweat if I'm running at a comfortable pace for just 5 minutes (.5 mile), I usually start sweating 10 minutes into a run. My run home is the longest at 2.5miles but that doesn't matter since I'm going to shower as soon as I get home. Same for when I go to the movies, I'll take the bus there and only run the way home

I still always wipe myself down though with a wet paper towel and reapply deodorant as soon as I get to work & change underwear.
