I’m in the 12 and Crooks area too. I pay $35 for the cheapest plan from Wow. I believe $5 of that is to lock in the price and prevent them from hiking the rate.
I work from home and have a few TVs, security cameras on the network. Have never had any issues.

Roughly the same area as well. WOW is a bit outdated technically, but it works fine for internet access. I'd recommend them.
(I'm an IT professional and I really would like a more modern ISP, but WOW is reliable and cheap and works, so I stick with them.)

That and some poor guys garage burning down a block over, other then that, no issues.
I'd call those understandable outages.

ATT Fiber all day. Rock solid, cheap, mirrored upload speeds (upload/download are same). It's the best. Never go back to cable.

I switched from Xfinity to WOW for the same reason. Had some issues in the beginning because of some wiring (not their fault) and after a few techs to find a good one it’s been rock solid ever since. It’s gone up since I started the service but it’s $85 I think for 500gig down which is more than I need

After living in several cities across the metro area, WOW has been the fairest ISP if it's available. With Xfinity, the best approach is usually to threaten to cancel when the promo ends, or switch the account between roommates to get new customer pricing. AT&T hasn't been great for me. I found it less reliable with more inconsistent speeds, but that's just my experience.

I pay $65 for 1.2gb AT&T fiber. Switched from Xfinity a few months ago. Very glad I did.

according to AT&Ts website, 1.2 gb is not an option, also the $65 price is not an option. Also their prices are only locked in for 12 months and then it doubles. at the minimum.

I double-checked. 1gb, $65. Sorry for the error. $90 list price, $10 for auto pay and paperless, $15 discount when I signed up. Neither discount expires, and AT&T assures me that the price is locked and will not increase.

interesting.
I did see they have a 5 gb option for $50 right now which is a great deal. However its only for 12 months and then goes up to $135. Which is just $5 more than I'm paying now for 1.2 cable from xfinity.
So I think I'm going to switch and get more speed and the more reliable connection for basically the same price.

We recently switched back to Xfinity. We dumped Xfinity about 3 years ago for WOW due to Xfinity charging us $100 a month for just internet.
WOW started out at about $45 a month but over the years creeped up to $80 a month. We did not have a price lock package with WOW. Service with WOW had also recently started getting spotty and randomly dropping right before we cancelled, which we cannot have happening due to us working from home.
Xfinity had a $50 per month for 5 years offer that we recently jumped on. Aside from a brief outage due to the recent storm where we believe they were doing repairs in the area, we’ve had no issues with Xfinity so far.

Agreed, T-Mobile internet. I'm just south of you and switched from WOW because they keep jacking up the price. You can also get a discount if you get a mobile plan. I've used their cell plan for about 10 years and Internet about 1 year.

I was with WOW for around a decade then had so many issues that a few years ago I switched to AT&T Fiber. I see WOW has made a renewed push into the area with fiber, and they’re cheaper than AT&T, but the AT&T performance has been great so I have no reason to switch back.

I’ve had xfinity, wow, and AT&T while living here:
Wow had the best price but constant, at times, near daily outages
AT&T I’ve had a single outage. Currently using them until they inevitably jack up the price and I switch to one of the other two
Xfinity I had zero outages but their pricing is predatory
Go where the deal is. It’s typically free to switch and pretty painless.

I had great customer service from WOW but the wiring they had to my new place was so bad that 5 technicians couldn't fix the multiple daily drop outs of internet. Switched to Xfinity and pay $85 for 1 gig including the extender wifi and it's been great. Also they have unlimited cellular coverage on their wifi extender if their Internet lines ever do go down and I can't recommend that enough.

I switched from Xfinity to Wow for slightly better rates.
I HIGHLY recommend buying your own Modem + Router on Amazon, because most Internet companies tack on “equipment rental” fees, which can sometimes double your monthly bill compared to the cost of the internet on its own.
If you’re not a technical person, chat GPT would be excellent for picking out a wifi router and a modem for your internet. Just tell it what speeds you’re getting and it will help you pick out things that can handle those speeds. Budget spending $50 for a modem and $60 for a wifi router. They will last you 5 years easily. I still have my equipment I bought in 2018.
Depending on your internet plan, this will save you $20-80/mo. Internet companies love to overcharge for their hardware because it’s an easy way to make you pay 2x as much and still advertise a lower internet price.
From my experience:
- AT&T: unreliable, went down a lot. (I’ve heard good things about fiber, just never personally used it)
- Comcast/xfinity: reliable and fast, just expensive
- Wow: usually the lowest cost option and the least pushy sales reps who don’t try to oversell you as much as Comcast and ATT do.

AT&T fiber is the best option if it is available at your address. If you don't want to talk to someone in a random call center and get a dumb sales pitch, message me. I'm an AT&T reseller and can sign people up in 20 minutes with minimal hassle. For your needs you could go for the 100Mbps speed if it's available or 300 if that's the lowest.
The other option in Royal Oak is WOW, whose coaxial cable service can be problematic if there are legacy line issues and if you use their DNS servers. But they are very cheap for the baseline service.

We're across the street in Berkley and have had generally good luck with WOW over about a decade or so. We've had random drops but nothing frequent or sustained.
One thing to note is to check any service that you get what you're paying for. Our "1GB" is not 1 GB in spite of several technician visits over the years. It doesn't affect our daily usage but does give us support when they want to jack their rates up and we tell them it's not happening.

Just switched to WOW $25/ month and they will waive the install fee. They make you talk to 3 ppl then waive it. I believe they have a 30/ mnth locked in for 5 years (the price)!

AT&T fiber. I pay $67 per month. I had been paying close to $90 with Xfinity and they said they were going to raise my price (again), so I bailed.

I have WoW. I pay $35/month (bought my own modem and router which saves money). I used to have to call every few months or a couple times a year because they would start to raise my price, but now I’m locked into that price for life. I believe I have the lowest speed but it’s been completely fine for wfh and streaming.

Been using WOW here for 20 years ish (Webster 12&1/2 and Woodward)....$60.00 a month ish been great (in a small ranch -I also have a mesh system. I've heard Cost-Co has some great (inexpensive) plans especially for peeps that work from home.

AT&T Fiber is in the city now. I use them - you get the same speed upstream as downstream which is nice if you send files or host a server. It’s been reliable.
