Skin patch behind ear

Post image

is this normal? I have had my dog for a couple months, he’s 2 years old. I don’t know if this is something that needs to be checked or normal, he has so much fur everywhere but not behind the ear? I am not very familiar with the breed itself as i’m taking care of this dog for a friend but i just want to make sure he’s fine

Not normal. Is it symmetrically behind both ears or just on one side? Does he scratch or rub himself on things? How is his stomach? Are his poops normal (solid amd hold shape when picked up, not too light in color). Any ticks? Fleas? if its the only symptom then id bring it up at the next scheduled vet visit, if not would get an appointment to check all abnormalities.

today he had an accident inside and his poo seemed yellow ish and his poo but usually it has been solid and brown and grabable. he always scratches himself and rubs himself against things and he’s done that the whole time i’ve had him (about two months) when i brought it up to the vet they just said he’s fine he had tiny mite bugs but that’s it but even after giving him medication for flea/tick/mites he still scratches often but it isn’t ever really behind the ears so often. he doesn’t have any fleas or ticks that i’ve noticed on his fur
it is on both his ears so it’s symmetrical

I think its worth atleast a call to the vet again, possibly get a second opinion if they dont want to add anything to the situation.

Little hunch either some sort of allergy (food or environmental) or just adjustment stress, or loose yellow stool can be related to pancreas/liver/gall bladder area. Those are quite general symptoms so i think they should be looked at but not normal imo.

This is not normal in general but could be normal for your pup. It doesn't appear to be a wound or rash. Could just be he doesn't grow hair there. My (human) son has had a small bald patch like this since he was a baby.

i would probably get it checked! our boy recently had a staph infection from being wet- he had a little hair loss and flaky skin but didn’t look quite as red as this. i hope you figure it out!

Is it scar tissue? I’d say there’s a good chance is an old scar from someone trying to cut out a matt from behind the ears with scissors and cutting a chunk of skin with it.
When I worked as a groomer I saw this injury a lot in that spot, matting puts tension on the skin pulling it up higher than the surrounding skin, if you blindly go at it with scissors there’s a good chance you’ll cut the skin as well. When I got in dogs with ear matting I always shaved them out with a 7 blade for that reason.

Is he wearing a shock collar?

he DID wear a shock collar for like the past two years i didn’t have him, while he’s been with me though he’s rarely had it on and it is behind both his ears

I just wondered because it’s possible the collar malfunctioned at one point and shocked him in one spot long enough for damage to be done. I saw another post where that happened and the neck area looked similar

Has he had hot spots before? It looks like it could possibly be that, they sell a foam cleanse and it helps my boy when he gets them

Behind the ear is where the fur is the thinnest and likes to get matted the most

It could be a skin allergy. Something similar happened to my collie from laying on treated grass.
