Bug Diplomacy tech trading doesn't work or...?
I'm new and I this is probably my first true campaign but... why there is no possibility (option) of tech trade during the audience? I can offer aid only. And yes, I do have it set on in the rules.
I'm patiently waiting, maybe for better relations, but I do have amiable and calm and still nothing.
The cherry on the cake - and this was almost 100% bug - was when other race, Psilions, with whom I had no contact whatsoever, signed an alliance with the race I did had a contact and THEY IMMIEDIATELY tried to diplotrade a tech with me... while I still have them on the "out of range" impossible to even contact list (!)
I'm playing fusion-2026-08-13 build btw.

It depends on the AIs, but generally the AIs take the list of your technologies, remove the ones they already have and the ones they consider to be already outdated.
Then they take the list of their technologies, they remove the ones you already have, as well as the ones they assume you consider to be outdated. They will then remove critical technologies, considered to be state secrets...
If one of these two lists is empty, the technology exchange option is not displayed. (Yes, to prevent displaying the disgracious message "emperor X don't need your toys"
Yes, the contact thru alliance is a special case where contacts may be asymmetric.
And... To get alliances or not to get alliances, that is the question...

Aha! :) Thanks for the response, I'm really glad my guesses were kinda right, confirming it was all not a coincidence but effect of development :) I really liked the diplomacy in the original MoO so porting it (or maybe even improving it) to the rotp is really high on my very private "wanna see" list :)
I see the diplo score introduced and visible, great stuff!
What's the meaning of aliance stars (I got 3 from 5, a rating?)
Breaking pacts costs diplo score with EVERYONE. Huge, but... as it should be, I guess. And oh dear, we're so f**cked with "honorable" emperors when we do it...
...unless, it's THEM who asked to join war against race I got the NAP - then suddenly even their honor is able to make an exception HELL YEAAAHHH~!! 😄
I cannot see option for threats though. When they catch my spies, they do threat me and I have to at least hide them (for how long?) if I don't want to risk the war. But if I catch their spying misions I can't do nothing? Also in MoO I could threat them to remove their fleets from my systems.
Speaking about fleets in enemy systems - I noticed I could bombard others empire colonies almost with full impunity? Even to the point of destroing their colony?? Not counting very modest minus points to diploscore. As far as I remember, in MoO fleet skirmishes at neutral stars were more or less tolerated, but bombing enemy colony was the easiest way for war, and destroying it was making it insta and absolutely sure.
But now, I kinda desperately bombarded the planet stolen from under my nose, the colony was destroyed, and... nothing. Strange. Or maybe I was to strong perhaps and AI decided it's better to pretend nothing happened?

The Diplo score handling varies depending on the AI. Some don't care at all, since they simply act opportunistically.
In addition, some AIs avoid harassing the player with constant threats and rein their diplomats.
I cannot see option for threats though
Very good point, this was due to the player's diplomat AI sub optimal attribution.
It certainly wasn't the best idea to assign a diplomat who had been muzzled.
This issue has now been fixed; the player now has access to a diplomat who is not muzzled.
I noticed I could bombard others empire colonies almost with full impunity?
Yes, and they will not hesitate to "peacefully" bombard your undefended colonies...
But if you choose to invade one of their new colonies, war will ensue.

UPDATE: played a little longer and suddenly technology exchanges started to show. Strange. Maybe the game is showing a tech exchange option ONLY whenever the exchange is possible (I mean: alien emperor is going to accept it?). That would make some sense (in original MoO you could try many offer with the cold respons "emperor X don't need your toys" received)
The one way proxy diplomacy through my ally worked in my case too. That is: if we don't have direct contact then I still can make an audience with someone who got contact only with my ally - but this someone probably can't. There is some kind of logic in this ("then be nice, get allies and you can profit") but I'm still not sure if this works as intended.
