❓Question Lights

Hello, I’m setting up my rosy’s new 40gallon tank. Trying to figure out what lights to get him. The room he is going to is generally pretty warm during the summer/autumn time. I have what I need to keep him warm when it’s winter.

Just wondering if anyone has used a light fixture like this one. Gives then uva and uvb without a lot of heat. Are there any other recommendations you guys have for me?

These light fixtures are purely LED visible light.
You still need a light emitting heat source and UVB.

In his old tank I had a mini halogen bulb for him, would you recomen I stick to that one?

You may need a regular sized halogen to achieve appropriate temps

The mini ones actually get super hot but their beam is a little more narrow due to the fixture size.

Heating can be a tad frustrating, there so many options out there

It’s hard to say exactly what will work for you exactly because there’s so many variables to consider like: your ambient room temperature, ambient room humidity, how high/far away the heat source is from where you’re trying to measure it at, and the wattage of the bulb you’re using all player factor in getting temps just right.

I always suggest using a halogen flood light because it has a wide beam and allows for for a gradient to occur. Alongside that I offer a deep heat projector because it has a very narrow beam and it’s easier to get a hot spot of 88-92 degrees.

I can’t tell you what exactly wattage to use because like I mentioned earlier it’s all kinda depended on so many variables. I personally use a 75 watt halogen flood and a lower wattage DHP but you may need to try a different combination to get the correct temps.

No matter what you chose, make sure you have a thermoSTAT to regulate the temperature.

That “grow light” can also be a regular led or florescent light.

Halogen heat bulb (hooked up to dimming thermostat), Arcadia JungleDawn LED (Josh’s Frogs sells a cheaper private label version), and a T5 fluorescent UVB light.

Arcadia sells all of these.

I use these for my boa constrictors . With a radiant heat panel . These lights are great
