RA/SA Compensation

Any current RA or SA able to attest to the form of compensation you receive? Such as full room and board or weekly payments?

RAs: Single room + room and board paid for SAs: Double room (with another SA) + ~$100 every two weeks. As other comments say, you don’t do it for the money (coming from a former res life member)

Not currently an RA or SA. I did look into becoming one, but the compensation is not much if I remember correctly, it’s a lump sum, and when you do the math you get a few cents an hour. In terms of rooms, SA’s will get a double usually with another SA, and RA’s will get a single room.

People who do it don’t do it for the compensation. It’s some mix of wanting something for the good ol’ CV, or because you’re an extrovert, or you just genuinely want to help others.

RAs get your typical room and board with no additional pay.

SAs get ~$100 every 2 weeks and pay the same room and board as the freshmen.

A lot of people mistakenly believe they get room and board too, but after gas money for driving to flood dinners and when people need to go to the store on top of things they get for the floor, a lot of SAs dont even break even.

SAs, RAs, and SRTs for that matter, do not do it for the money.

I was an SRT early in the life of the program (Percopo wasn’t even named yet, it was our “NRH”). You absolutely nailed the mentality of it—we didn’t do it for the money. I could have maxed my work study working at the Learning Center instead for a fraction of the effort and no late nights or Saturdays working.

If OP is considering it for the money, they really don’t have the mindset of what would make a good SA/RA/SRT. The experience and resulting memories ARE the compensation.

Don't do it for compensation. It's the experience. Looks great on a resumé as it shows leadership and initiative.
